Best Time To Visit Australia

Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination

The best time to visit Australia is March to May and September to November which constitutes autumn and spring season in Australia respectively. During the months from March to May, the average temperature is 10°C to 15°C while during the months from September to November, the average temperature is 11°C to 23°C

The tourist's footfall in Australia increases in winters (June to August) and these months are considered to be the peak months to visit Australia. It is winter in Australia and the temperature ranges between 15°C to 26°C. Christmas festivities are in full swing during this season along with snow activities like skiing, snowboarding, etc.

Let’s go through the below guide to help you decide the best time to visit Australia based on some prominent areas, months, and seasons.

March-May (10°C to 15°C)

From March to May, Australia experiences autumn. Temperature ranges from 10°C to 15°C on average. During this time of the year, the skies are clear after the rains, and the chill of winter is yet to set in, which makes it the best time to travel to Australia.

This is also the best time to enjoy a boat trip or swimming with sharks in the Ningaloo Reef.

June - August (12°C to 26°C)

June through August is cold winter. But the temperature in Australia does not go too down to become uncomfortable. The chill in the air is mild. The minimum temperature in Sydney is around 8°C on average during peak winters in July.

Partake in an unusual boat race, called Henley-on-Todd Regatta held in August in Alice Springs.

September - November (11°C to 23°C)

This is the springtime in Australia when the average maximum temperature in the northern territory can go as high as 35°C-38°C. The greens are at large, the cold fades away, and the sun shines brightly over the beaches, deserts, and oceans. But, because of the subtropical high-pressure belt zone, the heat and humidity both are quite high during this time. Thus, it is not the best time to visit Australia.

Get to enjoy food and wine festivals while exploring the Margaret River region or partake in the Melbourne Cup horse race in November for a different experience.

December - February (15°C to 30°C)

These are the tourism hotspot months for Australia, because of the pleasant weather and the chance to experience Christmas in summer. The temperature around the country is more or less pleasant, although it is summer here. Sydney has 19°C-25°C temperature, which makes summer in Australia, perfect for outdoor activities without breaking much of a sweat. These months are the best time to visit Australia from India.

Get to celebrate Australia Day with some firework displays around Sydney Harbour.

Best time to visit the East Coast:

For the love of beaches, one must visit the east coast of Australia during the summer season, i.e. between the months of December and February. However, one can also choose to travel during the spring season, i.e from September to November when accommodation prices are lower and the weather is also quite decent.

Best time to visit the Great Barrier Reef:

Though, the best time to visit the Great Barrier Reef can be anytime after rainfall. However, as the weather in Australia is more stable during the winter season, it is recommended to visit here from the month of June to October.

Best time to visit the Gold Coast:

Enjoy an excursion to the Gold Coast in the months of April and May when the temperatures are comfortable with less rainfall.

Summer Season in Australia

Summer season in Australia is when the most number of tourists visit the country. Although the north can get uncomfortably warm, the southern and western coasts are pretty pleasant to hang out in. This is the best time for Australia travel.

Monsoon Season in Australia

The west to north westerly monsoon winds brings the monsoon season in Australia during December to March. Thunderstorms are common, so are cyclones. Humidity stays around 70% in many places. However, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne can be visited easily, carrying an umbrella in the bag.

Winter Season in Australia

Winter in Australia is the opposite of what rest of the world experiences for the equatorial difference. The months from June to August are the winter season here. Although it is not the most popular season to visit Australia, one can make do with the climatic conditions for the cheaper rates of flights, hotels and transportation. The popular spots will have fewer crowds as well. If climate and temperature is not the issue, winter season in Australia can be a great time for honeymoon in peace.

Sachin's 10 days trip to Australia

We did not like the arrangements at all. They could have been much better planned and executed if they would have thought about their customers even a bit. After hundreds of calls, messages and emails from my husband, the final vouchers were handed to us 8 hours before our flight.. we did not even have time to take a careful look at them.. The sightseeing tours were not selected thoughtfully. Most of the sightseeings were at max 1.5 hours long and repititive like the Skydeck in Melbourne, Skypoint in Gold coast, Harbour cruise in Sydney, etc.. and then the entire day was left free, which is good for some days but not all days which was the case with us. Better sightseeing tours should have been planned. We had to book several additional sightseeing tours on Viator.com so as to be able to experience Australia.. If we would have followed only the itinerary prepared by the agent, we wouldn't even have seen a Kangaroo or Koala Bear even after spending so much money and staying for 10 days in Australia.. It was evident that the cheapest of sightseeing tours available were booked for us, for example, the cruise in Sydney was an hour long and consisted of us just sitting on a ferry and seeing the harbour without anyone telling us what we are seeing.. It was a complete waste of time, we got much more information while riding on Ferries for our visit to the zoo that we booked separately.. No pickups from our Hotels were arranged even when complimentary pickups were available with the tours booked.. No directions were provided to us regarding where to reach and how.. No information on local transport available and how to travel was provided.. We know how Google Maps work and therefore got to the specified locations, however, any aged or not so tech savvy travellers would have missed their tours repeatedly.. It was a total chaos. On top of all that, this was my husband's birthday trip and he had told this to the agent several times, but they were not even courteous enough to book us a cake.. The agent wished a very Happy Birthday to my husband on Whatsapp though.. The rooms booked for us in Sydney didn't have complimentary breakfast and were so small that there was hardly any space to stand apart from the queen bed that was provided to the 2 of us.. The upgrades were available starting at just Rs. 1500 per night but they booked us the cheapest option so that they could pocket as much money as possible.. We felt cheated time and again during the entire trip. We will never travel with HubHolidays again and would suggest others too not to make that mistake..

Jayesh's 8 days trip to Australia

We booked the flight tickets from HubHolidays. Yeeshu and Prashant handled our booking pretty well. Yeeshu was extremely proactive in checking flight tickets for us. For about a week or so he kept checking tickets until we got the best one. He kept the tickets on hold for us when he found appropriate and low fare flight for us and we did the bookings in no time. I couldn't have got that rates by myself. This included the travel insurance and VISA assistance as well. VISA assistance (Pawan and Team) also amazingly handled and we had no problem whatsoever. The sightseeing options provided were also good and at comparable rates but we wanted to see them at our leisure at the destination itself. In all, it was a great experience for us and would recommend to check them out while planning a trip. Shout out to Yeeshu again for handling our booking well. :)

Neeraj's 7 days trip to Australia

Really satisfied with the trip! All the hotels provided had pretty good location. Rohit from Hubholiday was very active throughout all stages of the trip, right from planning the itinerary to the very end . We planned our entire itinerary during late hours and Rohit was happily available to receive calls during those odd hours mostly after 12 midnight! Execution was as good as the planning. These guys , Rohit and Prashant, were available for queries throughout the trip. They entertained even the last minute changes. Overall an excellent trip to a beautiful country!
