Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal, the state with which Bhutan shares 187 kilometers of international border. It is also the city with the best transport facilities to reach Bhutan. All three modes of transport – air, road, and rail are easily accessible to go from Kolkata to Bhutan. The City of Joy is the only major metropolis which has this convenience when it comes to Bhutan. Here is how to reach Bhutan from Kolkata via three different modes of transport.
By Air: There are many Kolkata to Bhutan flights from Netaji Subhas International Airport to Paro Airport in Bhutan. Paro is the only way to get into Bhutan by air. Bhutan’s national carrier Druk Air and also Bhutan Airlines fly regular flights to and fro between the two cities. Kolkata is the only city to have more than a couple of direct flights every week. The duration of the flight is 1 hour and 15-20 minutes on each side of the journey.
By Road: If you want to go from Kolkata to Bhutan by road, it will be more time consuming but not impossible. Kolkata to Bhutan distance to right to the capital city of Thimphu is 1054 kilometers. One can rent a car, which will drive all the way through the North Bengal districts like Siliguri and Jalpaiguri and then enter Bhutan border through Jaigon-Phuentsholing. It takes around 26 hours by car. But the same distance takes 22 hours and 30 minutes by the super-fast Kolkata to Bhutan bus services. These buses leave every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from Esplanade Bus Terminus from Kolkata and come back on the alternate days.
By Rail: There are no Kolkata to Bhutan train that one can avail. However, there are trains till Hasimara or New Alipurduar from Sealdah station of Kolkata, from where availing a cab, auto, shared jeep or car service to the Bhutan border is much easier. From Phuentsholing, one can take a bus or taxi to go to Thimphu.

Trip to BhutanThey promised a driver cum guide but we got only non-talkative drivers. One of the hotels booked was horrible, a dingy place above a wine shop (Barring that exception, all hotels were good to excellent). Other than that, there were minor hiccups almost on a daily basis that required maybe 30 mins each day to sort. So its not a worry-free holiday.
Trip to BhutanThe trip was really well arranged. Himavat Travels was really helpful. From the starting by hotel booking till we reach back home, they were continuously in touch. Himanshu from himavat was specially very much helpful. All the steps were taken care very professionally. Only one small concern was the hotel in Thimphu. The first hotel was not at all at 2 star level. But it was taken care of very fast. All over really great experience. I would again come back for my next trip. I am really impressed. Also a special thanks to Varun from travel triangle for all the help. Can’t point out anything special. But the scenic beauty of Bhutan is gorgeous. It’s literally the heaven on earth. Although I really enjoy the Dzong visit at Punakha. The scenes were extraordinary.
Trip to BhutanAll services were very good,as promised, just a feedback on travel agent was appreciated if they were little proactive, took lot of follow up for a revert on few things, else everything was pretty smooth .I still recommend AD tours strongly and TT supported well. tigers nest and all hotel stays , thank you so much for memorable experience.
Trip to BhutanArrangements were done without any hassles and services provided were very good. Highly recommended for family.
Trip to BhutanWe had a wonderful trip. All the arrangements were nicely. We did not face any issue. The guide who took us through all the places was amazing. Bhutan is beautiful and we will cherish the trip through out our lives.
Trip to BhutanHimmavat travel owner has RUDEST behaviour. he talked about cancellation of trip just day before 1 day of trip. Final Iternary was not provided till our trip got over which landed us to checkin wrong hotel, Missing some points, n hv to pay for drop at airport. It was Ranjita who help us out somewhat. otherwise all other working in Himmavat r rude. We did sightseeing at Phuentsholing on our own. other local agents gave us list of points for sightseeing. driver was not provided iternary so he skipped some points n we did no shopping. chelela pass and dochula pass.
Trip to BhutanThe driver who was assigned to us had no information of the places. He was supposed to be driver cum guide but he was clueless of the places and he had no idea of the itenery provided to us. So far bad experience in terms of driver survice provided by travel triangle. We had to ask local people for the places mentioned in our itenery as driver told us nothing about the place or museum (not even the basic open or close timings) We did trek to tiger nest, though it was hectic the view was worth the climb.
Trip to BhutanHi,The hotels and itenary given by your were really good. The executives were also friendly and very helpful and kind to take the feedback every moment. only thing we got upset was for last day ,when we had informed the the driver to come to pick us at 2.30 am as we had to reach bagdogra at 12 noon ,he did not come infact avoided our calls to receive. When Mr Aditya Joshi gave us the Local Agents no Mr Agraj after receiving first call when driver did not reach even he started avoided calls that was not expected from a professionals ones. My wife was not feeling well that day and coz of this nuisance by you we had to suffer that day. Finally my hotel cook arranged his friends vehicle for me at 3.45 am, finally we reached Bagdogra airport on time but negligence of driver that moment should have been avoided. The Texa Trove management should take care of such things in future to avoid with the guests. Overall our trip was very memorable ,thanks to Mr Kunal & Mr Aditya. Regards Kapil.
Trip to BhutanTravel to Bhutan with Bhutan Inc was a wonderful experience. Bhutan is a beautiful country with amazing people. We had booked our flights on our own and with help of Travel Triangle finalized Bhutan inc as our agent. We interacted with Mr.Hari who was available anytime and answered all our queries, adjusted our hotels as per our needs. On reaching Paro airport, we were picked up by Mr. Rinchen in Hyundai H1, which we requested. He was very very helpful throughout our trip, took good care of us. Hotel Namseling in Thimphu was very good and close to the craft bazaar. Rooms were neat and breakfast good, more than that the people running the hotel were amazing. In Punakha we stayed at Damchen resort in a beautiful location on banks of a river. However the food was not good, especially breakfast. We stayed at Soenam Tsokhang resort in Paro. It was located far from Paro but rooms were good, food was very good and again amazing people are running the place. They took care of us very well. I would recommend travelling to Bhutan with Bhutan inc.
Trip to BhutanThe services were good. For some reason, I was charged about INR 50 extra every time I made payment to Travel Triangle. I requested the executive to check but i never received any response.
