How To Reach Bhutan From Kolkata

By Air: There are many Kolkata to Bhutan flights from Netaji Subhas International Airport to Paro Airport in Bhutan. Paro is the only way to get into Bhutan by air. Bhutan’s national carrier Druk Air and also Bhutan Airlines fly regular flights to and fro between the two cities. Kolkata is the only city to have more than a couple of direct flights every week. The duration of the flight is 1 hour and 15-20 minutes on each side of the journey.

By Road: If you want to go from Kolkata to Bhutan by road, it will be more time consuming but not impossible. Kolkata to Bhutan distance to right to the capital city of Thimphu is 1054 kilometers. One can rent a car, which will drive all the way through the North Bengal districts like Siliguri and Jalpaiguri and then enter Bhutan border through Jaigon-Phuentsholing. It takes around 26 hours by car. But the same distance takes 22 hours and 30 minutes by the super-fast Kolkata to Bhutan bus services. These buses leave every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from Esplanade Bus Terminus from Kolkata and come back on the alternate days.

By Rail: There are no Kolkata to Bhutan train that one can avail. However, there are trains till Hasimara or New Alipurduar from Sealdah station of Kolkata, from where availing a cab, auto, shared jeep or car service to the Bhutan border is much easier. From Phuentsholing, one can take a bus or taxi to go to Thimphu.
