About Nightlife Guide In Siem Reap
Siem Reap Nightlife is as popular among the tourists, expatriates, and locals as the ancient temples of Angkor. As the sun sets and the town gets ready to settle down for the day, Siem Reap brings out of the bag a sort of liveliness kept only for the nights. Mostly dominated by cheerful nightclubs, tapas bars, and restaurants that stay open till midnight and beyond, the nightlife of Siem Reap also has some other unique attractions.
Here are the best nightlife activities in Siem Reap for anyone who is new in the sprawling town.
1. Pub Street
The main nighttime action can be found at Pub Street, Siem Reap at the heart of the town. The street is dotted with nightclubs and pubs competing with each other with punchy music and punchier drinks on the card. It is not possible to swing a leg at all of them, but some places are a must to tick off the checklist. “Angkor What?” is a place with a clever play on the most famous name in Cambodia. It the very first bar on Pub Street in 1998. Since then, it has become a classic destination for the nocturnals there. Other places to enjoy a drink or two in Pub Street are Barcode and Linga Bar known for their gay crowd, the Picasso Bar, Mezze Lounge Bar & Nightclub, the X Rooftop Bar and Silk Garden. Moving away from the Spanish and French style tapas bars, there are Caribbean style Soul Train Reggae Bar and Shanghai-style Miss Wong.
2. Angkor Night Market
Angkor Night Market is not only a jewel in Siem Reap night market but also quite the den for the nightlife frenzies. For the shopping part, there are numerous bamboo huts and shacks promoting and selling locally handcrafted indigenous items. The art, craft, jewelry, painting, and textiles sold here are for the preservation of old Khmer culture. The place has a couple of night time venues as well. So, to rest the tired legs from walking all day around, the places like Island Bar and Brick House Bar allows the tourists to let their hair down and relax while sipping on draught beer, cocktails, and shooters. They mostly serve American, Khmer, and Japanese food.
Off the lane between Pub Street and Street 7, Asana is unique and different than most of the places in Siem Reap. The owners of this place wanted to recreate the old Khmer ambiance in their property. So, the venue is basically what a real Khmer wooden house looked like, with laidback couches, reclining chairs, floor divans and hammocks thrown around everywhere. There are no tables, and customers can interact freely without any air of formality. The ambiance comes with flowing beer, wine and cocktails and authentic Khmer home cooked dishes and finger food.
4. Apsara dance performance
Attending an Apsara dance performance will be another cultural experience ticked off the bucket list. There are many places in Siem Reap that organize for the different styles of Apsara dance – a centuries-old Khmer tradition and part of Cambodian heritage. The performance can be folk, classical or shadow puppet dance. Places like Alliance Art Café, Temple Balcony, and Smile of Angkor have the performances every day from 7pm-9.30pm, while Apsara Theatre, Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor and a couple of other places have them on some days of the week.
