About Fiji Tourism
Fiji is a gorgeous tropical country and archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean. It’s not tricky to locate Fiji on map. It is right above New Zealand, which shares a water boundary with Fiji on the south via the Koro Sea. The archipelago is a collection of about 300 islands and 540 islets scattered in the South Pacific. Out of the 300 islands in Fiji, over 100 are inhabited by people. Viti Levu, or ‘Great Fiji’, is the largest island and home to the capital city, Suva. Fiji is known for its white sandy beaches, blue-green waters, and lush rainforests. You can also go surfing, snorkelling, and deep-sea diving. Fiji tourism attracts millions of tourists annually. Follow this Fiji travel guide carefully to access all relevant information to help you have the best tour of Fiji islands.
Geography
The topography of the Fiji Islands is complex and fascinating. It is a product of volcanic activity, gradual sediment deposits, and coral formations. The base is a submerged platform of ancient formations around which the coral reefs have collected over time. Viti Levu is spread over an area of 10,000 km sq. and accounts for more than half of Fiji’s landmass. Tomanivi is the largest mountain in the region, and Rewa, Navua, Sigatoka (Singatoka), and Ba (Mba) are the rivers that enrich the agricultural lands in the coastal plains. Vanua Levu is the second-largest island, accounting for about 5500 km sq. area in the region. Lomaiviti, Lau, and Yasawa groups are other volcanic islands lined with stunning colonies of coral reefs.
Plant and animal life
Almost half of the landmass of Fiji is covered with forests, and the western region is made up of dry grasslands. All kinds of tropical fruits and vegetables are grown in Fiji, and you’ll see an uncountable number of coconut palm trees near the coastal regions. The wildlife in Fiji is also quite diverse. Many woodland species flock to the rainforests of Fiji; besides that, pigs, dogs, cattle, and horses are domesticated and live with the archipelago's inhabitants.
Cultural life
A Fiji tour from India won’t feel so alienating. Did you know that a significant percentage of Fiji’s population descends from India? About 25 per cent of the locals are Hindu, and 5 per cent are Muslims brought over to the islands by the then-British colonial government. This means that you will feel right at home in Fiji. Many Fijians practice traditional crafts, such as manufacturing Masi or Tapa cloth, made from the bark of paper mulberry, mat weaving, wood carving, and canoe making. You can find beautiful handmade craft items here and take them home as souvenirs. The Indian population of Fii still holds on to their traditions and customs. Fiji celebrates Diwali, Guru Purnima, and other Hindu festivals enthusiastically. English, Fijian, and Fijian Hindi are the three official languages.
