Visa Requirements

Indians don’t need pre-approved visas to enter Fiji. A visa can be issued upon arrival at Fiji Airport. Tourists must show a valid passport, return tickets, and proof of sufficient funds for their stay. However, if you intend to stay more than 120 days, you might need to apply for a visa to extend your stay.

Flight Details

The main two airways that operate flights for Fiji are Singapore Airlines and Fiji Airways. But keep in mind that in the peak seasons, from June to August and December to January, flights can get booked out. So book your flight tickets in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

Language

Fijian and Fijian Hindi are primarily spoken in Fiji. Some native also speaks English. While you are here, it is very unlikely that you will face any language barrier. However, locals are very friendly and helpful.

Currency

The currency used in Fiji is called the ‘Fijian Dollar’. It is equivalent to 37 Indian Rupees. You must keep local currency in cash with you as most cab facilities accept cash. However, restaurants and hotels do accept debit and credit cards. But it's safe to keep some cash with you in case of emergencies.

SIM Cards

You can get a SIM card from either Digicell or Vodafone Fiji. It will charge around 100-150 Fijian Dollars. You might not get high-speed internet, but it will work just fine.

Tips For Travellers Visiting Fiji

1. Do not exchange currency at the airport, as you would not get reasonable rates.

2. If you have a bucket list for Fiji adventure activities, check whether they can be done in the season you plan to visit.

3. Do not rely on the free internet. Buy your internet package and use that.

4. Do not forget to pack the 3-pin power adapter for Fiji.

5. Do not expect to do much on Sundays. The streets would be empty, shops would be shut, and no locals would be spotted because Sunday is church day.

6. If you plan to get a car on hire, then it's best that it is done ahead of time, as the charges would be far too low.

7. Avoid shell markets. Yes, stopping yourself from purchasing these souvenirs will be challenging, but if you do buy them, you might not be able to return home from the airport as most of these shells belong to endangered species.

8. Keep your eyes out for blank-banded sea snakes.
