March to June is peak season, with pleasant days around 25 deg C, ideal for paragliding, treks and Khajjiar. July to September brings the monsoon: the hills look their greenest but landslides and roadblocks can disrupt sightseeing, so build slack into a group plan. October to February turns cold, dropping to around 11 deg C and lower, with snow around Dalhousie, Khajjiar and Dainkund usually from late December through February. How to reach Dalhousie

By train: Pathankot is the nearest railhead, about 80 km (2.5 to 3 hours) from Dalhousie, and the simplest arrival point for a group coming from Delhi, Amritsar or Chandigarh.

By road: Dalhousie is roughly 200 km from Amritsar (about 5 to 6 hours), 305 km from Chandigarh, and 560 km from Delhi (about 11 to 12 hours). A group is best served by one hired tempo traveller from the railhead or airport, both cheaper per head and easier to keep together than several taxis.

By air: Dalhousie has no airport. Kangra (Gaggal) airport is about 130 km away and Amritsar around 200 km with wider connectivity; from either, groups drive up. Pathankot airport is closest but has limited flights.
