Ponte Vecchio, the old bridge is the only one across River Arno in Florence until the year 1218. The bridge that exists today was rebuilt in 1345 after a flood. It was the single bridge across Arno so during World War II, the fleeing Germans did not destroy it. They blocked the access to the bridge by demolishing medieval buildings that were present on both sides. The furious flood in 1966 was also withstood by this bridge and it is still a beautiful location one should not miss in their tour to Florence. The view and the experience one gets from this location is indeed exciting.
