Bagh-e-Bahu Entry Fee & Ticket Price (2026)

Bagh-e-Bahu ticket prices 2026 at a glance

Every part of the Bagh-e-Bahu complex charges separately. Here is each ticket, who pays what, and where you buy it.

The aquarium rate comes from the J&K Government's fee revision Order No. 439-JK(APD) of 2024, dated 12 September 2024 and published by the J&K Fisheries Department. No authority publishes the garden gate or fountain-show fees, so those figures are what visitors paid at the counter through 2025 and 2026. Why older websites still say Rs 5

Search for the Bagh-e-Bahu ticket price and you'll find Rs 5, "free entry", Rs 24 and Rs 30, sometimes on the same results page. Most of those quote the garden gate fee, copied from one listing to the next for years, and the gate fee is small enough that nobody goes back to update it. The bigger gap is what they leave out. None of them prices the aquarium, which is the ticket most families actually pay for.

In September 2024 the J&K Government raised the aquarium fee to Rs 100 for adults and Rs 30 for children, tying the new rate to the planned Oceanarium (Sea-World) upgrade at the site. Guides written before that still quote Rs 10 to Rs 50. So if the aquarium window asks for Rs 100, you're not being overcharged. That is the official rate.

Bagh-e-Bahu aquarium ticket price

The aquarium costs Rs 100 per adult and Rs 30 per child up to 10 years. It is run by the J&K Fisheries Department, and you pay at its own window by the entrance, not at the garden gate.

What the Rs 100 buys is a walk through a fish-shaped entrance into a corridor cut into the hillside, past 24 tank-caves holding more than 400 species. JKTDC calls it the largest underground aquarium in the country. The loop takes 30 to 45 minutes on a weekday and closer to an hour on a Sunday, when the corridor gets crowded.

Phone photos are allowed. Flash won't help, because the corridor is dim and the glass throws it straight back, so hold the phone flat to the tank instead. If you're carrying a proper camera, ask at the window first. Some visitors report a camera charge of about Rs 50, and the 2024 order doesn't mention one. The aquarium closes around 7 PM, an hour before the garden, so see it first.

A new Oceanarium is being built next to the existing aquarium, with a walk-through glass tunnel under marine tanks. In August 2026 the Daily Excelsior reported the tunnel was nearing completion and that 1,362 marine fish across 14 species were being bought in for it. No separate Oceanarium ticket has been announced yet. We'll add its price to the table above as soon as the counter confirms it.

Musical fountain show ticket and timing

The fountain show is the one part of Bagh-e-Bahu with a fixed start. It begins after dark, from about 7 PM, and runs 30 to 40 minutes of coloured jets set to music on the lower terraces.

The ticket is separate from your garden entry and costs about Rs 100 to Rs 150 per person. It's sold at the show area in the evening, not at the main gate when you walk in during the afternoon. On weekends and holidays the seats go quickly, so be at the counter by 6:30 PM.

Bagh-e-Bahu vs Bahu Fort: two different tickets

Bagh-e-Bahu and Bahu Fort share one hill above the Tawi, which is why so many sites blur them together. They are separate attractions with separate tickets.

Bagh-e-Bahu is the terraced garden, the aquarium and the fountains on the lower slope. Bahu Fort stands above it. The fort was rebuilt in 1585 and again under Maharaja Gulab Singh in the 19th century, and the Bawe Wali Mata (Mahakali) temple sits inside its walls. The fort charges Rs 10 for adults and Rs 5 for children, and darshan at the temple is free. Tuesdays and Sundays draw the biggest temple crowds. The Jammu Ropeway also starts on this hill. Its Bahu Fort station runs cable cars across to Mahamaya, with a second leg over the Tawi to Peerkho, and the ride is ticketed separately at the ropeway counter, not covered by any Bagh-e-Bahu ticket.

Online booking, payment and discounts

You can't book Bagh-e-Bahu tickets online, and you don't need to. Every ticket is bought on the day at one of three counters: the main gate for the garden, the aquarium entrance for the aquarium, and the show area for the fountain show. A website selling a paid skip-the-queue ticket for the garden is not official.

Carry cash in small notes. UPI works at some counters, but not reliably at all three. Foreign visitors pay the same rates as Indians, as no separate foreigner fee is published. There is no published student, senior citizen or group discount either. The 2024 order lists only the adult and child aquarium rates.

What a visit costs: family of four

Here is what two adults and two children under 10 spend on tickets, before transport and snacks.

A couple doing the garden and aquarium spends Rs 210 to Rs 250. The full garden, aquarium and show combination takes 2 to 3 hours, and the fountain show is the biggest single cost in it. On a tight budget, skip the show. The garden and aquarium alone fill about an hour and a half.

Plan your visit and save time

Arrive around 4 PM. Do the aquarium first, while the corridor is quieter and before it closes at about 7 PM, then walk the terraces in the late light and take your seat for the fountains at dusk. The aquarium fee on this page is checked against J&K Government Order No. 439-JK(APD) of 2024 on the J&K Fisheries Department website. The garden and show fees, which no authority publishes, are checked by our Jammu desk against what travellers paid at the counter, and we re-check every price before the November to January peak. The old "INR 5 for all" line this page carried has been replaced with each ticket priced separately.
