The island has no bridge, so a boat is the whole journey. Three jetties put you on the water, and the one you pick depends on where you are staying.

The State Water Transport ferry from Muhamma usually has a couple of morning departures (around 10:30 am and 11:45 am), and the Kumarakom-to-Muhamma ferry is sometimes routed via Pathiramanal in the late morning. These times move with the season, because the jetty runs on daylight rather than a fixed clock, so check the day before and always confirm the last return boat. If you want to be sure of a slot, a private speedboat from Muhamma or a houseboat operator will take you across on your own schedule for a set charge.

How to reach Pathiramanal from Kumarakom

From Kumarakom the island is about 4 km across Vembanad Lake, roughly a 30-minute boat ride. You have two easy options. Take a shared ferry heading towards Muhamma that stops at Pathiramanal, or hire a private speedboat or houseboat from a Kumarakom jetty and go direct. How to reach Pathiramanal from Alappuzha (Alleppey)

Alappuzha is about 13 km from the island. From the Alappuzha boat jetty you can hire a motorboat, which takes roughly 90 minutes and doubles as a slow backwater cruise, or a speedboat that gets you there in about 30 minutes. Many Alleppey houseboat trips also pass close to Pathiramanal, so ask your operator whether a stop is included.

By air: nearest airport

The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport (COK), about 75 to 85 km away, or 2 to 3 hours by road. From the airport, drive to Muhamma, Kumarakom or Alappuzha and take a boat across the lake. Trivandrum airport is the next option but sits much further south, so Cochin is the practical choice for almost every visitor.

By train: nearest railway station

Alappuzha (Alleppey) is the closest railway station, roughly 13 to 16 km from the Muhamma and Alappuzha jetties and well connected to Ernakulam, Kottayam and the rest of Kerala. If you are heading for the Kumarakom side of the lake, Kottayam station (about 30 km) is the handier railhead. From either station, take a taxi or bus to your jetty, then the boat.

By road: reaching the jetty

By road, aim for whichever jetty suits your route: Muhamma, Kumarakom or Alappuzha. KSRTC buses and private taxis serve all three from Alappuzha and Kottayam. Muhamma sits in Cherthala taluk on the western shore of Vembanad Lake and gives the shortest crossing, so it is the usual starting point for a quick trip. Drivers can park near the jetty and continue by boat.

Timings, best time to visit and entry fee

There is no entry fee to land on the island; you only pay for the boat. Pathiramanal is a daytime destination, open through daylight hours, and you cannot stay overnight. Jetty boat timings shift from season to season because they follow sunset, so plan a daytime visit and confirm the last return boat before you set off.
