The best time to visit Kathmandu is during the autumn season from September to November when temperature ranges from 9°C to 20°C. During this time, the weather in Kathmandu is absolutely perfect for a long vacation or a short trip. As the monsoon rains have just gone and the chill of winter is yet to set in, the autumn season brings in a mild cool temperature, ideal for outdoor activities, like trekking and sightseeing. An additional bonus is a view of crystal clear, vivid blue skies which make it so easy to spot all the mountain peaks from different viewpoints.

Kathmandu receives the highest number of tourist footfall during the shoulder season as the weather in these months is dry and cool, thus pleasant for sightseeing. Moreover, a tour during October may let tourists observe one of the biggest Hindu festivals – Dussehra or Dashain with a lovely spirit and vibrant festivities all around. This is, then, followed by Diwali or Tihar, which is yet another days-long festival celebrated by Hindus; which makes it a great time to get on Kathmandu tourism.

September to November (20°C to 25°C)

This period is the best time to visit Kathmandu, as the weather falls right in between summer and winter, and the monsoon rains are also gone. Depending on their preference, one can either visit during the days between September to mid-October and make the best of autumn here or wait till late November for the weather to get really cold.

December to February (4°C to 8°C)

The weather in Kathmandu in December starts getting cold, and the cool breezes keep flowing till the month of February. So, people who want to cherish the chilly weather, this can also be a great time to visit the place. And, with occasional snowfall people can savor picturesque views and indulge in adventure sports to feel some adrenaline pumping.

March to May (22°C to 25°C)

March to May is the second-best time to visit Kathmandu. As the sun gets very bright while dazzling up the altitude, the weather in Kathmandu in May can be considered warm and temperate. Offering an opportunity to cherish the majestic views of the mountains. It is also the time when flowers start blooming, adding beauty to the environs of Kathmandu.

June to August (6°C to 79°C)

With the arrival of June, July, and August, Kathmandu gets to experience rainfall. During this time, rainfall in Kathmandu averages at 1407 mm for the city and for the entire valley as well; while humidity stands at 75% on average. The weather can feel cooler because of the clouded sky and the downpour, but it is actually quite balmy and humid weather during this time of the year.
