About Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu
Kopan Monastery is an educational and spiritual institution, located on the outskirts of Kathmandu city near the Boudhanath Stupa in the valley region. Although it looks quite antique, its foundation was laid only in the last century. Lamas Thubten Yeshe and Thubten Zopa Rinpoche bought the land on which Kopan Monastery stands from Nepal’s royal astrologer and set up this institution. Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu is a member of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition, or in short FPMT. It is an international network of dharma centres based on Gelugpa faith, introduced into Tibetan Buddhism by Je Tsongkhapa in the late 14th century. Kopan Monastery once used to be the headquarters for FPMT. Now it is a nunnery, a study centre and a monastic shrine which draws a crowd considerably. Kopan Monastery Kathmandu Nepal has become quite a popular destination for foreigners, who are looking for a spiritual retreat and want to explore the famous Oriental faith of mystique lands of Tibet.
Spiritual Courses and Retreats:
FPMT students can stay here and explore the depths of Buddhism with the help of the different courses and retreats available. ‘Discover Buddhism’ is the all year-long course, while ‘The Next Step’ is a more in-depth, intense study of the religion and Kopan Monastery meditation. There is a daily 90-min Dharma talk session scheduled from Monday to Friday at 10:30 am. The Group and Private Kopan Monastery Retreat options are preferred by many for a peaceful week, delving deep into their own consciousness. The courses here are taught mostly based on the traditional Lam Rim – the holy text of Tibetan Buddhism showing the path towards enlightenment as told by Buddha. The texts are accompanied by informal conversations and guided meditation.
Kopan Monastery Shop:
There is a Kopan Monastery shop which sells a range of handicraft and other souvenir items, meditation equipment, audio CDs and spiritual books for you to take home. There are provisions for custom-made gift items as well. All the proceeds from this shop go to the monastery, the nunnery and the education of the monks.

Trip to NepalIt was such an amazing experience. Our driver Pravin was very kind, helpful and keep us safe during the tour. The staff of our hotels was so kind, welcoming, cheerful and respectful. Vikram, Suyog, and the rest of the team in Hotel Temple Inn in Kathmandu were so helpful, full of energy. Bravo to them
Trip to Sikkim - Gangtok - DarjeelingStarted with a ride from bagdogara to Gangtok. Scenic ride with teesta river travelling with you by side for most of journey. Ride to Nathula pass covering Tsomgo lake where we had different life time ride on a yak in rain and We covered Baba mandir too. Next day was a local sightseeing trip covering Monastery, waterfalls etc. Started to Darjeeling same day and checked into hotel late night. Next day started with very early going to Tiger hills at 4 AM to watch picturesque sunrise on Kanchenjunga hills. Post that , local sightseeing covering peace Pagoda, tea gardens etc. Started to airport, on the way covered India Nepal border and Nepal pasupathi market is providing cosmetics at unimaginable cheap rates (hope Indian women is not aware of this ;) .. just kidding). Overall it's a lifetime experience which will be close to my heart. Only Cons I find in the trip are: Some drivers are rash, so be careful. Landslides is a common word here, it may upset trip sometimes. During monsoon, paragliding and ropeway is closed due to weather. Ride to Nathula pass , a place for patriotism and natural beauty is exceptional. Sunrise watch at Tiger hills cannot be expressed in words.

Trip to NepalIt’s our first time visiting to Nepal with Ashirwad Tour & Travels. I truly do not have the words to express the amazing vacation that was planned for us by this travel agent and his staff. Few things command more respect than hard work, integrity, dedication and the ability to follow through. These are among the many attributes we experienced from start to finish when organizing our trip to Nepal with this travel agent. This travel agent is an excellent listener and pays attention to detail; a lost quality in today’s world. Although our itinerary took us to different cities. The drivers was all skilled and reliable and the vehicles were always clean. Safety was never a concern. Selecting a travel agent and advisor can be frustrating and even dicey at times. Not in this case. We could not be more pleased with every component of our adventure and must give this agent, the Ashirwad tour travels, the highest marks possible. Thank you!!!
