Dalhousie Khajjiar Honeymoon Package for Couples at a Glance
Most couples book this route for one reason: Khajjiar. It is a wide, saucer-shaped meadow ringed by cedar with a small lake at its centre, sitting at around 1,950 m about 24 km on from Dalhousie, and on a clear morning it earns the "Mini Switzerland of India" name it is known by. Dalhousie itself is a small hill town the British laid out in the 1850s, so you can see its churches, springs and mall road in an afternoon and keep a whole day free for the meadow. Three days is enough to do both without rushing, which is exactly what a honeymoon should feel like.

Day-by-Day Couple Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Dalhousie and an evening in town
You reach Dalhousie and settle in. Most couples fly into Delhi, take the short hop to Chandigarh and drive up, or come by the overnight Volvo from Delhi. If you prefer the train, Pathankot is the nearest railhead and your agent arranges a cab from there. The drive up is part of the trip, with deodar slopes and the first Dhauladhar views opening well before town. After you check in there is a welcome drink waiting, and the evening is yours. Walk up to Subhash Chowk for the wide view over the snow line and the valley, named for Subhash Chandra Bose, and step into the little St. Francis Church beside it, a stone-and-timber chapel from the early 1900s that stays quiet and cool under the cedars. From there it is a short stroll to Gandhi Chowk, the mall and main market, where you can pick up Chamba handicrafts and sit down to local food. Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 2: A full day for couples in Khajjiar
After breakfast you drive out to Khajjiar, and this is the day the package is built around. On the way you can stop at Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, about 13 km from Dalhousie, a hushed deodar forest with an easy, level walk to the forest rest house that couples like for the quiet and the light through the trees. Close by is Dainkund Peak, at around 2,745 m the highest point near Dalhousie and known as the singing hill for the sound of wind through its grass. A 20 to 30 minute walk from the road reaches the small Pholani Devi temple and a clean sweep of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges. Then you arrive at the meadow. Khajjiar has a small lake at its heart with the old twelfth-century Khajji Nag temple and the much-photographed Panch Pandav tree on its rim, and the open grass has room for a horse ride around the lake, a turn at zorbing, or paragliding when the season is on. It is a slow, easy day made for photographs and for doing very little together. You are back in Dalhousie by evening for dinner.
Day 3: A slow breakfast, an optional Chamba stop, and departure
There is no early rush on the last morning. After a relaxed breakfast and checkout you begin the drive back down. If you want to add a stop, Chamba town sits about 50 km from Dalhousie and can be included on request: it is the old capital of the region, with the tenth-century Laxmi Narayan temple complex, the grassy Chaugan promenade, and views of Chamera Lake on the way. Otherwise the transfer takes you straight to Pathankot or on toward Delhi in good time for your onward train or flight. If you have an extra day, this package can be extended with a Dharamshala and McLeodganj leg. Ask an agent to quote it.
Romantic Things to Do in Khajjiar for Couples
Khajjiar is small, and that is the point. You are not ticking off a long list here, you are slowing down. A few things couples come back talking about:
• Walk the meadow hand in hand early, before the day-trippers arrive, when the grass still holds the mist and the lake is mirror-still.
• Take a horse ride around the rim of Khajjiar lake, or just sit on the grass with a flask and watch the light move across the cedars.
• Drive the Kalatop deodar forest and do the flat rest-house trail together. It is shaded, quiet and easy, and needs no fitness.
• Catch the late-afternoon view from Dainkund Peak, when the ranges turn gold and the wind picks up over the singing hill.
• Try zorbing or, in season, a tandem paragliding flight over the meadow for the couples who want one big memory.
• Ask your hotel to set up a private candlelight dinner on your first or second night. Most Dalhousie properties on this route can arrange it.
Best Time to Visit Khajjiar and Dalhousie for Couples
Khajjiar and Dalhousie work all year, and the "best" month really depends on the honeymoon you want. March to June is the classic window: the meadow is at its greenest, days are mild and the evenings just cool enough for a jacket. September to November is quieter and clear, good for couples who would rather have the grass to themselves. If you are chasing snow, come between mid-December and February, when Khajjiar turns white and the temperature can drop below zero, though a heavy spell can briefly close the higher roads. July and August bring the monsoon and the greenest hills of all, with the trade-off of rain and the odd landslide delay. For most honeymooners, March to June and September to November hit the sweet spot.
How to Reach Khajjiar and Dalhousie
There is no airport or railway at Khajjiar itself, so you route through Dalhousie, and Pathankot is the gateway for both. On this package the transfers are private and included, so once you tell your agent how you are arriving, the cab is arranged to meet you.
| By | How | Distance / time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train | Rail to Pathankot, then cab | About 85 to 90 km, roughly 3 hr to Dalhousie | Pathankot is the nearest railhead. Amritsar is a further option, about 200 km |
| Air | Fly to Pathankot or Kangra (Gaggal), then cab | Pathankot about 85 to 90 km, Kangra about 120 km | Delhi to Chandigarh flight plus a cab is a common route too |
| Road | Private cab or Volvo from Delhi | Delhi to Dalhousie about 560 km, overnight | The final climb runs through Banikhet. Khajjiar is about 24 km on from Dalhousie |

Your agent shares the exact name and category before you pay, and you can ask for a room with a valley view for the honeymoon.
Cancellation: because this is a customisable, agent-quoted honeymoon package, the exact cancellation and refund terms are set out in writing on your final quote before you pay.
