Dalhousie Tour Package From Pathankot Overview: 3D/2N
Dalhousie sits about 80 km up the road from Pathankot, and that short drive is exactly why this 3-day trip works on a long weekend. You leave the plains at Pathankot, climb through pine slopes, and by lunch you are among the colonial churches and deodar walks of a hill station the British laid out in the 1850s. The town is small on purpose. You can see its churches, springs and mall road on the first afternoon and still keep a full day free for Khajjiar.
Khajjiar is the reason most people book this route. It is a wide green meadow ringed by cedar with a small lake in the middle, about 24 km on from Dalhousie, and it earns its "Mini Switzerland of India" tag on a clear morning. This package keeps the plan tight and the transfers private, so a couple or a family can do Dalhousie and Khajjiar comfortably in 3 days without a rushed itinerary.

How to Reach Dalhousie From Pathankot
Pathankot to Dalhousie is about 80 km and takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours by road. Pathankot is itself the nearest railhead and the nearest airport to Dalhousie, so almost everyone arrives at Pathankot first and then drives up. On this package a representative meets you at the Pathankot railway station, bus stand or airport and you travel up by private cab.
| From Pathankot | How | Distance / time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| By train | Rail to Pathankot, then cab | About 80 km, 2.5 to 3 hr drive | Pathankot Junction and Pathankot Cantt are the closest stations to Dalhousie |
| By road / cab | Private transfer (included) | About 80 km, 2.5 to 3 hr | Pickup from station / bus stand / airport; scenic climb via Dunera and Banikhet |
| By air | Fly to Pathankot, then cab | About 80 km, 2.5 to 3 hr | Pathankot airport is the nearest; Kangra (Gaggal) is the next option, about 120 km |
The drive itself is part of the trip. The road leaves the Pathankot plains, follows the pine ridge through Dunera and Banikhet, and the first Dhauladhar views open up well before you reach town. Your private cab handles the tolls and parking on the transfer, so you are not stopping to sort out change at every barrier.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Pathankot and Dalhousie sightseeing
You are received at Pathankot (railway station, bus stand or airport) and driven up to Dalhousie, roughly a 2.5 to 3 hour climb. After you check in, the afternoon is for Dalhousie itself. You visit St. John's Church, built in 1863 on Gandhi Chowk, and St. Andrew's Church, the 1903 Church of Scotland at Balun, both stone-and-timber colonial chapels. From there you stop at Subhash Baoli, the spring-fed rest spot named for Subhash Chandra Bose, and Panchpula, a set of pools and small falls around the memorial to Sardar Ajit Singh, about 7 km out. On the same stretch you pass Satdhara Falls, a run of seven springs whose water carries a trace of mica and is said locally to be good for the skin. If time allows, the short loop around Bakrota Hills gives you the town's best open snow-and-valley view. In the evening you are free to walk the mall and Gandhi Chowk market on your own. Meals: dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Khajjiar via Kalatop and Dainkund Peak
After breakfast you set off for Khajjiar, the highlight of the trip. On the way you can stop at Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, about 10 km from Dalhousie, a quiet deodar forest with an easy nature walk to the forest rest house (entry is at the check-post). Close by is Dainkund Peak, at about 2,745 m the highest point around Dalhousie, known as the "singing hill" for the wind through its grass; a short 20-30 minute walk from the road leads to the Pholani Devi temple and a full Dhauladhar panorama. You then reach Khajjiar, roughly 24 km from Dalhousie. The meadow has a small lake at its centre, a 9-hole golf course, the old Khajji Nag temple, and the space for zorbing and horse riding that families come for. You return to Dalhousie by evening. Meals: breakfast; dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Optional Chamba stop and departure
After a relaxed breakfast and hotel checkout, you begin the drive back down to Pathankot. If you want to add a stop, Chamba town sits about 50 km from Dalhousie and can be included on request: it is the old capital of the region, with the 10th-century Laxmi Narayan temple complex, the grassy Chaugan promenade, and views of Chamera Lake on the way. Otherwise the return transfer takes you straight to Pathankot railway station or airport in good time for onward trains and flights, so you are not cutting your connection fine. Meals: breakfast. This package can also be extended by a night to add a Dharamshala and McLeodganj leg if you have the extra day (ask an agent to quote it).
