Wagah Border Parade, Amritsar (Punjab)

Wagah Border is the only road border between India and Pakistan. The Beating Retreat Ceremony held here every evening marks the closing of the borders of both the countries and lowering of the flags by the military of both the countries. Located close to the Attari Village, Wagah Border is a major crossing between India and Pakistan. It is known for its high-spirited ‘Lowering of Flags’ ceremony which is the major attraction of this place. This ceremony is also known as Beating Retreat at the international level. One of the most exciting activities in Amritsar for tourists is watching the Wagah Border Parade.

History Of Wagah Border

Wagah Border is the only road crossing border between India and Pakistan and it is also called the Berlin Wall of Asia. This border is on the Grand Trunk Road and is 23 km from Lahore and 28 km from Amritsar. The Beating Retreat Ceremony was started in the year 1959 on the agreement of the government of both the countries. The ceremony is held every evening which marks the official closing of the borders between both the countries and lowering of the flags.

Wagah Border Ceremony

This popular event takes place every evening before sunset. Soldiers of Indian Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers perform this ceremony at the border. This electrifying ceremony begins with a booming parade by the soldiers and ends with a lowering of flags on both sides. As soon as the sun sets, the border gates are opened and one soldier from each side comes forward and shakes hand with the other along with folding of flags. The Wagah Border Parade is truly a wonderful spectacle worth attending.

Facts About Wagah Border:

The marching with the very high lifting of legs is called the Goose Marching.

The Wagah Border ceremony is 45 minutes long.

Anybody can watch this ceremony free of cost.

The ceremony is carried out by India’s BSF Jawans and Pakistan Rangers.

The ceremony is postponed during the tension or war-like situation between the two countries.

So, do not forget to pay a visit to the Wagah Border on your next visit to Amritsar, to be a part of one of the most exciting military ceremonies in the world. Wagah Border in Punjab is one of the main attractions and attracts a large number of tourists every year. The ceremony held at Wagah Border will surely give patriotic feelings to all those visiting this place. One can even take part in the dance session which is held just before the parade.

    • Trip to Kashmir

We booked Young Bombay Tours & Travel for our Amritsar and Jammu-Kashmir trip. The arrangements & hotel booking done were really great. As it was 11 days trip, the iteneary was very well planned & budgeted. Not a single day we felt hectic, it was organised in such a way. Commendable job done by Zaara & her team. All the drivers we met during our trip were wonderful people. They supported us in every way. Must mention Burhan bhai & Zahoor bhai whom we met for Kashmir journey. The places which we visited in Kashmir were so breath taking that it really cannot be mentioned in words. Thank you Young Bombay for such a beautiful & memorable trip. It is really difficult to list the best memories of the trip beacuse the complete trip itself was beautiful. The freezing temperature & the view of snow all over at Gulmarg was completely mesmerizing.

    • Trip to Himachal

We enjoyed our trip with Guruji though there were some communication barrier with our cap driver who can not speak English but things could be eventually solved out. We have faced unexpected problems during our visit to Manali; one member lost her purse and passport and the other got a stray dog bite while walking in downtown. But with our skilled and supportive driver despite limited English, my friend's passport could be located and eventually being picked up on the way of our next destination to Amritsar, thanks god. The member who got dog bite could reach to the public hospital in Manali for treatment. So thank you to Mr. Mukthiar, the driver, for the good job. I also like to thank you Avinash and Rehka for their support and fast responsive to our questions and needs from the beginning through our itinerary. I will definitely come back and choose Guruji Travels for our next trip.

    • Trip to Kashmir

We were a group of 9 adults and 4 children. Classic Holidays Kashmir provided us a customized Itinerary for 7N and 8D to travel to Srinagar, Sonamarg, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, katra and Amritsar. Our agent Rabiya was very diligent and patient enough in preparing our itinerary. It was a memorable trip for all of us. Though we had a few hurdles in our travel during our trip due to the convoy, Rabiya helped in rescheduling the hotel bookings and our driver Thanveer was very friendly and cooperative and he guided us very well to reach our destination with a private van that we had to book on our own to reach Katra on time so that we did not miss our helicopter to Vaishnodevi Temple. He was helpful in getting a good guide in Gulmarg and also helped us in getting cabs in Sonamarg. The following are the reviews for the hotels that we stayed: Royal Milad , Srinagar - very good hotel and good service Montreal house boat- food was good, but cleanliness and hygiene was an issue Moon view, Pahalgam - Good hotel but service was not very satisfactory Hotel Dolphin,Katra - good hotel and good food Hotel Roopa International, Amritsar - leaking taps, dining hall was under construction, some sewage problem so the lobby area was stinking. Se we definitely recommend Classic Holidays Kashmir. Thanks to Rabiya and Thanveer.

Driver was not friendly. He told a lie in the morning that sollang valley is closed due to high snow. But when we reached nehru kund we came to know from other person that sollang valley is opened and can go by Gipsy car. He bought us costly dress, shoes and scatting but at nehru kund every thing was in very chip rate. Shimla Hotel Paradise village resort was very far and down in the valley can only go by walking. Amritsar Hotel Singh International was very compact, Hot water geyser was not working, Breakfast was not provided, Room privacy like u can listen full conversation of other room as well. Some Hotel TV cable was not working as well. Driver always parked car in free parking. He parked car very far from sightseeing point. Quality of quotes was good but look at in real not all sightseeing point was covered. Sollang valley, Khajjiar, Subhash bowli not covered Darjeeling trip by Make My trip.
