Activities In Amritsar

Famous for several shrines and delectable cuisine, Amritsar is one of the most popular travel destinations in Punjab. It’s the spiritual capital and a major pilgrimage site for Sikhs and Hindus. Let’s take a look at the best things to do in Amritsar to make the most of a holiday in Punjab:

Visiting the Golden Temple or Harmandir Sahib is one of the top things to do in Amritsar. At the Golden Temple, visitors can take a holy bath before entering the temple, volunteer at the langar to serve food to the needful, pay a visit to Akal Takht, and take pictures of night-time reflections of the beautifully lit-up temple in the pool. In the afternoon, travelers can take a stroll through the Jallianwala Bagh memorial to witness the infamous event that happened in April 1919. This 6.5-acre garden holds a great cultural significance in Amritsar.

Wondering what to do in Amritsar? Pay a visit to Partition Museum which displays a repository of stories and documents about post-partition riots. This public museum is located in the Town Hall, a 10-minute walk from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The museum is open from 10 am to 6 pm, closed on Mondays. Those looking to know more about city’s history can opt for the Amritsar heritage walks which take visitors to havelis, gurudwaras, dhabas, and more.

Attending the famous Wagah Border ceremony is a great thing to do near Amritsar. Every evening two hours before the sunset, security forces from both India and Pakistan, perform a ceremony at the main border. People on both sides cheer for their respective countries to create an atmospheric scene. Plan another day trip from Amritsar to Pul Kanjari to explore a ruined fort and a baoli. Shopping is another one of the fun things to do in Amritsar. Hit the streets lined with shops at Hall Bazaar in Amritsar to buy jewelry, handicrafts, books, clothes, and more. Make sure to buy embroidered phulkari dupattas and Punjabi juttis (traditional footwear). After shopping, travelers can enjoy eating at dhabas in Amritsar such as Kesar Da Dhaba, Bharawan Da Dhaba, and Beera Chicken House.

For outdoor activities in Amritsar, travelers can explore attractions such as Gobindgarh Fort which was thrown open to the public recently. Visit the 12-meter long Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama in Ram Bagh Park to enjoy paintings and sound-effects. Mata Ka Mandir, dedicated to Saint Lal Devi, is another major pilgrimage spot in Amritsar. It features low tunnels, inclined walkways, caves, and mirrored hallways. Shri Ram Tirath Temple and Goindwal Sahib are other major places worth visiting near Amritsar. During the winter season, planning a picnic to Harike Pattan Bird Sanctuary between Amritsar and Ferozpur is one of the unique things to do in Amritsar.

Zamindar's 8 days trip to Amritsar

It was a wonderful experience touring with one of Travel Triangle's associated Tour Operator "Wild Lotus". the services were great. Special thanks to the Tour Manager Rakesh Gilly for being so cooperative. He has been always there for any assistance. The Hotels were as commited just had to compromise a bit with food at some hotels. Hotels provided at Shimla & Dharamshala were the best anyone can get at this price. Hotels at Manali, Dalhousie & Amritsar were also fair enough if compared to the price they charged. Even the car which was provided for local transport was new & in good condition as promised by Rakesh Gilly. The driver was very humble, professional & deciplined. The itenerary was very well planned by Rakesh Gilly & covered almost every tourist spot. In all it was a great experience & from now Wild Lotus will be my preferred tour operator when it comes to touring North India. Thanks again Rakesh Gilly.

Nikhilramesh's 4 days trip to Amritsar

Overall trip was good. They followed whatever mentioned in the package. Only thing is we felt that the driver was not properly briefed. For the first day we reached Chandigarh very late hence we had to take dinner on the way other than from the booked hotel. This expense has been agreed and allowed to deduct. Appreciate for that. The hotel at Chandigarh was fine. But hotel at Amritsar was not that much standard one. Plus the dining area was not good place. Food was very good in both places. Car driver is very good. driving was perfect. But there was no space at all in this Innova to keep the luggage. we struggled to accommodate and had to keep in the seats. We all came from different places hence all were having luggage. Overall it is very good.
