Pushkar is town in Rajasthan that is a very important pilgrimage site for devotees of the Hindu and Sikh faith.

There are a number of temples and shrines in this town that people come from all over India to see, like the Brahma Temple-- one of its kind as temples devoted to the Lord Brahma are few in number. The town is primarily a temple town and the consumption of meat, even eggs are forbidden to protect its sanctity.

There are a number of famous Gurudwaras dedicated to Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh as well as beautiful and numerous bathing ghats built by the Sikhs. Pushkar is also well known for its annual fair-- the Pushkar Camel Fair, which is held over seven days and features a fete of cattle, horses and camels for trade. It is held in the Hindu month of Kartika Purnima, and people from all over the country and even beyond come to see this festival.

Pushkar Holi, which is the festival of Holi, is celebrated in a grand manner in this town. There are extravagant and jubilant street parties and colour fests held all over the city to celebrate the triumph of good over evil as told in the stories. Pushkar Lake is also a sacred lake-- and is said to have been created by Lord Brahma when a lotus fell from his hand and fell to Earth, causing a beautiful lake to emerge in its place. There are plenty of things to see and do in this town, and travelling to Pushkar is not an issue at all. Here is a list of the ways you can get to this fascinating town.

By Air: There are a number of direct flights from Mumbai to Pushkar that ply daily, offered by most big airlines like AirAsia, SpiceJet, GoAir, IndiGo, Air India, Vistara and more. The tickets are also very reasonable, ranging from 2.9k for direct domestic flights up to 28.9k for international connecting airlines. The aerial distance between Pushkar and Mumbai is 840 km, and you will reach within 2 hours. Taking a flight is fast and convenient, but also far more expensive when compared to the other means of transport.

By Train: There are no direct trains between Mumbai and Pushkar, but you can board a train to the nearby city of Ajmer and then travel to Pushkar which is only 40 minutes away! The entire journey will take you about sixteen hours, and you will have to pay only half the price of the cheapest flight ticket. But keep in mind that the ride will be long and tiring-- you will get a chance to enjoy the wonderful scenery on the way. If you are travelling with the elderly or with children, it is not recommended to travel such a long distance by train, take a flight instead!

By Road: There is unfortunately, no direct bus between Mumbai and Pushkar, but there are many well-maintained roads and highways connecting the two cities, so you can either drive down in your own car and make a road trip out of it or take a connecting bus from Delhi or Ajmer! Keep in mind that if you choose to drive, you are signing up for a long, long drive of almost 17 hours!
