Travel To Spiti

Known for its mesmerizing landscapes, rugged mountains, azure lakes, distinct culture, quaint environment, pleasing weather, Spiti Valley is one such destination which is in the bucket list of every adventure lover, and spiritual seeker as well.

The thrill of riding through the rugged terrain, and fighting various obstacles such as the fiercely flowing waterfalls render Spiti as a hub for adventure seekers.

Referred to as the “Cold Desert”, the Spiti route from Manali remains closed for major part of the year, and is only open during the summer and monsoon season. Therefore, the main concern of every person traveling to this magical valley is how to reach Spiti. Due to the lack of airport, and railway station, Spiti cannot be accessed directly via flights and trains. This is the reason why most of the travelers prefer to travel by road. Even though there is no direct connectivity via flights or trains, travelers can still book tickets upto nearest airports/ railway stations if they are planning a Spiti tour. Here’s a Spiti travel guide on how to reach Lahaul Spiti via various means of transport such as flights, trains, buses, and private vehicles:

Traveling to Spiti by air is not an easy task because the Spiti Valley nearest airport is in Kullu which is around 260 kilometers away. Therefore, one still has to cover a lot of ground while traveling to Spiti by air. It takes around 7 to 8 hours to reach Spiti from Kullu airport. Another demerit of traveling to Spiti by air is that one might not find direct flights to Kullu airport from their hometown as it is a domestic airport. The nearest international airport is in Chandigarh which is kilometers away. Hence, traveling to Spiti by air can be quite challenging as well.

The nearest railway station to Spiti Valley is Joginder Nagar Railway Station which is 360 kilometers away from the valley. Hence, while traveling to Spiti by train, one will still have to cover a long road journey.

As the Joginder Nagar railway station might be connected to all parts of the country, travelers can book tickets to Shimla Railway station as well which is another 100 kilometers extra (456 kilometers approx.) as compared to Joginder Nagar station.

Traveling to Spiti by road is one of the most adventurous as well as convenient options for people traveling from nearby cities like Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and more. There are various routes via which one can reach Spiti. Travelers can either take the route from Manali via Rohtang Pass, from Shimla, or from Srinagar via Kargil. A Spiti Valley map provides useful information to tourists traveling by road via these routes.

One can choose to travel to Spiti Valley by bus, taxi, or a personal vehicle. Here’s a list of cities with their respective distance from Spiti:

Cutecady's 7 days trip to Spiti

My stay in Kaza at Nyma Mudhouse was fine until the morning I checked out as the caretaker of the property peeped through the bathroom window while I was in the shower. I raised it with my travel agent as well as the owner of the property and it was dealt with, however, it still haunts me till date. Would suggest if you thoroughly check and verify the hotels/homestays before agreeing to do business with them as a tourist trusts you and goes ahead with your travel plan. Rest everything was just splendid especially my stay in CHHITKUL at Avika Homestay. Their hospitality, warm and welcoming service as well as the feeling of being treated like I belonged there touched my heart!

Hrishikesh's 9 days trip to Spiti

It was an amazing trip. As requested driver was really good. The hotels were also great at most of the places. Hotel Deyzor in Kaza was the best and Manali hotel was bit disappointing especially when there are thousands of other hotels options you have to offer in Manali. Food was also good at most of the hotels except Manali hotel. Overall the trip was well arranged as per our requirements, very happy with the cooperation of the travel agent Kiran and Travel talkies.

Abhishek's 10 days trip to Spiti

*** poor service from travel agent as well as travel triangle *** The travel agent helped in planning our itinerary very nicely. We chose all our hotels and even gave them the quotes and type of rooms. But even after that they were not able to book the chosen hotels and in couple of hotels, the rooms that were provided to us were different from what we had discussed. On top of it the travel agents were of no help when called during the trip ( Kiran and Abhitabh). Biggest disappointment, the travel triangle designated person (Rohan Kaul) never picked up the call when we tried to contact him as well.

Sachin's 5 days trip to Spiti

It was a wonderful experience for all of us - lots of great memories were made. Travel talkies gave 5star service All the arrangements made were up to the mark. The hotels and transportation arrangements were excellent. The Hotels we stayed in had amazing scenic views, were very nice and clean, staff served us the best including clean and yummy food! The two drivers arranged for our group were very cooperative, polite and friendly. Their driving skills were excellent and safe. In addition, they were well informed of the tourist spots and they took us to good restaurants on the way to enjoy the local food. We enjoyed their company. Overall: Exceeded expectations. Special Thanks to Miss Reetu Sharma our Tour Organizer for all her efforts and putting this wonderful trip together. We look forward to collaborating with you in the future and will recommend you to our friends. Until next time, take care, & Best Wishes.
