Wildlife in Sri Lanka

This fantastic island has an amazing number of National Parks and Forest Reserves that has a variety of endemic plants, animals and birds. The Yala National Park boasts of having the highest density of leopards in the world. This is also the best place to catch a glimpse of the sloth bear. Chundikulam National Park is a bird watcher’s paradise. Tourists flock to catch birds in their most natural moments. The Kumana National Park is home to an awesome 255 species of birds. Other wildlife found here are a large variety of elephants, deer, leopards, and mugger crocodiles. Sri Lanka’s first man made safari park is the Ridiyagama Hambantota. There are around 22 different varieties of animals here ranging from the Bactrian camel to the African lions. Wilpattu National Park is home not only to mammals but also a wide variety of amphibians, reptiles, birds and insects. Wasgamuwa National Park speciality is it provides shelter to displaced or abandoned wild animals.
