Who discovered the Lion’s Paws in Sigiriya?
The well-known British archaeologist, Harry Charles Purvis Bell discovered this half structure in the year 1898.
What do the Lion’s Paws symbolise?
The whole lion was believed to symbolize the Lord Buddha and was referred to as Sakya Simha that translates to Lion that belonged to the clan of Sakya. This very fact till date brings many people to this site who are dedicated devotees of Buddha.
When was the structure built?
The whole structure, including the lion's head is said to have been built in the 5th century. The remains of the head are still there.
