About Palace of Nations in Geneva

Palace of Nations is located in Ariana Park, it houses the European Headquarters of the United Nations and is the largest UN center after New York.

Initially, the Palace of Nations was built for the League of Nations. To design the palaces, an architectural design competition was held in the 1920s. The jury of architects had to select a winner from three hundred and thirty seven entries. They couldn’t come to a decision, so they ended up picking five architects to build the palace.

The Palace of Nations is the second largest building complex in Europe. Two intentions were later added to the building after transferring to United Nations. Underneath the Palace of Nations’ foundation stone is a time capsule containing a document listing the names of the League of Nations member states, a copy of the covenant of the League, and specimen coins of all the countries represented at the league's tenth assembly. The Palace of Nations Geneva Switzerland is overlooking the lake of Geneva and a beautiful view of the Alps.

There are over 120,000 visitors yearly who visit the Palace. One can take the Palace of Nations Tour to know various interesting facts about it. The Palace of Nations Tour will take passengers to places like The Human Right and Alliance of Civilizations Rooms, The Salles des Pas Perdus, The Assembly Hall, the Council Chamber and also gifts room where gifts given to United Nations Office at Geneva are kept.

On the premises of the Palace of Nations, there is a café called The Serpent bar. The café has a 70’s style vibe, with an overview of the lake. It is an ideal place to sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful view.
