Nonstop 90-minute flights, free ETA for Indians and 4 to 8 day packages from Bangalore.: rated 4.3/5 (based on 3381 reviews) | Packages starting from ₹12,157/-

Sri Lanka Trip from Bangalore: Cost, Flights and Itinerary

Sri Lanka tour packages from Bangalore start at Rs 30,500 per person, and Sri Lanka is the quickest foreign holiday you can take from the city. IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines fly nonstop from Kempegowda International (BLR) to Colombo in about 1 hour 30 minutes, the clocks are the same as India's, and Indian passport holders need only an online ETA, not a visa.
That makes a long weekend realistic. Our Bangalore packages run 4 to 8 days, from a 3-night Colombo and Kandy break up to a full loop of Sigiriya, Kandy, the Nuwara Eliya tea hills, a Yala safari and the Bentota coast.

Card prices are per person on twin sharing and cover hotels, a private car with driver, sightseeing and breakfast. Return flights from Bengaluru are added to your quote when you ask for them, so you can book land-only if you have air miles or want the full trip priced in one go. Every itinerary can be changed, from the hotel class to the number of nights in each town.

How to Reach Sri Lanka from Bangalore

There is a direct flight from Bangalore to Sri Lanka that takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and flying is the only practical way to go. Sri Lanka is an island with no road or rail link to India. IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines both run the nonstop from Kempegowda International to Bandaranaike International (CMB) at Katunayake, with two or three departures a day between them. That is a shorter flight than Bengaluru to Mumbai.

Option Airlines Flight time Good to know
Nonstop IndiGo About 1h 30m Usually a morning and an evening departure
Nonstop SriLankan Airlines About 1h 30m Checked bag and a meal included in economy
One stop Via Chennai or Mumbai 4 to 8 hours Only worth it if the nonstops are sold out

Plan the drive to the airport carefully. Kempegowda is at Devanahalli, north of the city, and the trip from Whitefield or Electronic City can take 90 minutes or more at rush hour. International flights leave from Terminal 2, and IndiGo closes check-in 75 minutes before an international departure, so reach the airport three hours early. CMB is about 30 km north of Colombo. Your driver meets you at arrivals, and most of our itineraries head straight for Kandy, around three hours away, so a morning flight from Bangalore gets you to the first hotel before dark.

Distances, fares and the ferry question are covered in our full guide on how to reach Sri Lanka from Bangalore.

Sri Lanka Visa (ETA) for Travellers from Bangalore

Indian passport holders do not need a paid visa for a Sri Lanka holiday, but they must get an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before boarding. The fee for Indian passport holders has been waived since 25 May 2026, but check eta.gov.lk for the current fee when you apply, because waivers are reviewed. It gives a 30-day stay with double entry, you apply at eta.gov.lk, and approval usually takes 24 to 48 hours. Your passport needs six months of validity. Airline staff at Bengaluru check the ETA before they print a boarding pass, so carry a copy with your return ticket and hotel vouchers. Skip third-party sites that charge for the same form. Your TravelTriangle agent can file it with the booking.

Extensions and edge cases are covered in our Sri Lanka visa guide for Indians.

Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka from Bangalore

The weather in Sri Lanka is a little complicated because two separate monsoons hit the island at different times. That works in your favour, since some part of the island is always dry. The west coast, south coast and hill country are best from December to March, and the east coast is best from May to September. Our Bangalore packages spend most nights in the west, south and hills, so aim for December to March, or October and November if you want lower prices and can live with short showers. The coast stays at 27 to 31 C all year, while Nuwara Eliya can drop to about 10 C at night in January.

Months Where the weather is good Bangalore holiday it lines up with
December to March West and south coast, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Sigiriya Christmas and New Year, Sankranti (book 8 weeks out)
April West coast before the monsoon, hot in Colombo Ugadi and the start of the summer vacation
May to September East coast (Trincomalee, Pasikudah); west coast gets rain Summer vacation; ask for an east-coast swap
October and November Mixed, short showers, lower prices Dasara, Diwali and Kannada Rajyotsava long weekends

Month-by-month detail sits in our guide to the best time to visit Sri Lanka.

Tips for Travellers from Bangalore

• Travel within the island by train for at least one leg. The Kandy to Ella line is cheap, and it is the best way to see the tea country.

• Cover any Buddha tattoo, and take off your shoes and hat before entering a temple. Cover shoulders and knees, and never pose with your back to a Buddha statue.

• Carry a forex card plus some US dollars to change at CMB. Shops do not take Indian rupees, and card machines are patchy outside Colombo and Kandy.

• Pick up a Dialog or Mobitel SIM just past baggage claim at CMB. You get data in minutes, and PickMe works for cabs and tuk-tuks in Colombo, Kandy and Galle.

• Drink bottled or filtered water. Most hotels on our packages leave sealed bottles in the room.

• Pack a universal adapter. Hotels mix UK-style three-pin sockets with the round-pin Indian type.

• Bars close and alcohol sales stop on Poya (full moon) days, so check the calendar if you plan a beach evening.

Booking with agent Travco was smooth and they were accomodating in selecting hotels based on our choice. Cab/guide was very helpful and knowledgeable and he speaks English fluently so we didn't face any problem. Travel triangle support could be better prior to booking as dealing with multiple agent

Overall we are very satisified with the trip and we had a great time. Trip was well oraganized. Cab was clean, driver was on time mostly. Hibiscus beach resort near Bentota, Kamrel hotel at Sigiriya, Magampura eco village resort at Yala were the best properties. As far as improvements are concerne
d: Hotels at Kandy was below average on all parameters. Food at Nuwarya Ellia hotel was below average, howver, they accommodated indian food request Most importantly, we should have been allowed freely to choose government authorized operators for whale watch, Madu boat safari , polonurwarya city tour who offered tickets at half the price compared to Glamour asia recommended operators. No such restriction was mentioned in the itinerary Also, we had to book tuk tuk at Merrissa as cab was not available for whole day Several places mentioned in itinerary were not covered on one pretext or another eg Ambuluwawa. adam peak, Zip line etc. On the other hand, we were charged 10K LKR for polonurwa sight seeing in lieu of village tour and cultural programme in which we were not interested Lastly, we should have given flexibility to adjust time for sighseeing spots a little eg some spot is more appealing than the other Overall it was a good trip and well organized Thanks to Travel triangle and its partner So many of them eg Lion Rock, Nuwarya Elliia, merrissa whale watch, tea lounge, gem making, Hibiscus beach resort with priavte area, lotus tower at colombo .. so and so forth

FAQs About Sri Lanka Tour Packages

How much does a Sri Lanka trip from Bangalore cost, including flights?

A 3-night Sri Lanka package from Bangalore starts at Rs 30,500 per person on twin sharing, and the 5N/6D route through Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Bentota costs Rs 40,199 to Rs 47,000. Week-long trips with Sigiriya and Yala cost Rs 55,210 to Rs 83,500. Add about Rs 17,000 to Rs 27,000 for return BLR to Colombo flights, which puts most trips between Rs 48,000 and Rs 1,11,000 per person.

Are flights included in Sri Lanka packages from Bangalore?

Card prices cover hotels, a private car with driver, sightseeing and breakfast. Return flights from Bangalore are added when you request a quote, and your agent prices IndiGo or SriLankan fares for your dates so you see one all-in figure before you pay. You can also book land-only and use your own tickets.

Is there a direct flight from Bangalore to Sri Lanka?

Yes. IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines fly nonstop from Kempegowda International to Colombo (CMB), with two or three departures a day. The flight takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, and there is no time difference, so a morning departure lands you in Colombo before lunch.

Do Indians from Bangalore need a visa for Sri Lanka in 2026?

You need an ETA, not a paid visa. Since 25 May 2026 the 30-day tourist ETA is free for Indian passport holders, but it is still mandatory and must be approved before you fly. Apply at eta.gov.lk with a passport valid for six months. Approval usually takes 24 to 48 hours.

How long can you stay in Sri Lanka at one time?

The tourist ETA lets Indian passport holders stay up to 30 days per visit, with two entries allowed in that period. If you want to stay longer, apply for an extension at the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo before the 30 days run out.

How many days are enough for a Sri Lanka trip from Bangalore?

Six days covers Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota and Colombo at an easy pace, which is our 5N/6D route. Seven or eight days lets you add Sigiriya and a Yala safari. With a long weekend, the 3N/4D Colombo and Kandy package works because the flight is only 90 minutes.

Is a 4-day Sri Lanka trip from Bangalore worth it?

Yes, if you keep it to two bases. Fly in on a morning flight, spend a night in Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth and the dance show, then two nights in Colombo for Galle Face, Gangaramaya and shopping. Our 3N/4D Colombo package from Bangalore does exactly this from Rs 30,500 per person.

What is the best month to visit Sri Lanka from Bangalore?

January to March is the best window for the routes our packages take, with dry weather on the west coast, south coast and in the hills. December is just as good but costs more over Christmas and New Year. October and November are cheaper, which suits the Dasara and Diwali breaks if you accept short showers.

Is Sri Lanka good for a honeymoon or a family trip from Bangalore?

Both work well. Couples get tea-hill cottages and two Bentota beach nights on the honeymoon package from Rs 40,199. Families like the short flight, private car, Pinnawala elephants and turtle hatchery. English is widely spoken and vegetarian Indian food is easy to find in Colombo and Kandy.

What is the currency of Sri Lanka? Can I use Indian rupees?

Sri Lanka uses the Sri Lankan rupee (LKR). Indian rupees are not officially accepted, so carry a forex card and some US dollars to change at the airport or a bank. Hotels and larger shops take cards, but keep LKR cash for tuk-tuks, temple donations and small stalls.

What clothes should you pack for a Sri Lanka trip?

Pack loose cotton clothes for the coast and Colombo, plus long sleeves or a light shirt for sun protection. Carry a jacket for Nuwara Eliya, where January nights drop to about 10 C. For temples, keep something that covers shoulders and knees, and slip-on shoes you can take off quickly.
