The Zoo was founded with the aim to protect the wildlife and biodiversity of hilly areas of Uttarakhand. The zoo is home to some of the endangered species such as snow leopard, Tibetan wolf, Japanese Macaque, Sambar, Himalayan Civet, kalij pheasant, Lady Amherst pheasant, rose ringed parakeet, and others.
