Ideal Duration

There is just so much to see in Bhutan that to do justice to all of it, you would have to stay in the country for the entire 30 days that your visa is valid! However, not all of us have that much time on hand, so if you were to shorten your trip, you would need at least five days excluding your travel time to make the best of your visit.

Best Time To Visit Bhutan

Bhutan is a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year—depending on how well you manage the cold weather! October to December is the perfect time, as the rains have just ceased, leaving the valleys carpeted in beautiful blooms of rhododendrons, the famous flower that blooms in Bhutan! You may also get a few pleasant showers of rain which will make your holiday that much more enjoyable. From January to March the weather gets unbearably cold and you may not be able to enjoy your holiday to the maximum. From April onwards, the climate gets warmer and though you may not get to enjoy the beautiful flowers, you can still have a wonderful time in the warm sunshine and cool mountain breeze!

How To Reach Bhutan From Mumbai?

Indians do not require a visa to visit Bhutan, but you will have to carry along valid government-issued identity proof of you being an Indian citizen.

By Air

Paro International Airport is the only international airport in Bhutan, and is surrounded by mountains at a height of 7300 ft. This airport receives flights regularly from most Indian cities. There are other domestic airports in Bhutan which receive flights from the only airline Druk Air.

By Road

If you have the means, make sure you travel by car. The drive to Bhutan is scenic and a must-see all on its own. The only land borders open to travel by car are the ones at Phuentsholing, Samdrup Jongkhar and Gelephu. The journey from Guwahati to these land entry points is approximately three hours. You can either drive a car or take a bus. Plenty of buses ply from cities near Bhutan and are run by the Royal Bhutanese Government.

By Train

Travelling by train is a bit more complicated as there is no direct train route to Bhutan. You will have to reach a railway station near Bhutan, like the ones at Siliguri or Kolkata and then take a car or a bus to Bhutan. Thus, this method of travel is complicated and is not recommended.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to the overall experience that I have had in Bhutan to AD Tours & Travels. I have had a wonderful guide in Mr Sonam Tshering for being knowledgeable and guiding us in the whole journey. He was kind and considerate all throughout our journey. I appreciate the way he shared his wisdom with us and brought us closer to the culture of Bhutan making our trip to Bhutan more meaningful. Again, thank you for making this journey a pleasant and memorable one. We have certainly loved our stay here in Bhutan. Bhutan is a must place for one to visit. It is a country which has a different culture and vibe to it. It is clean throughout and the reason is simply because it is imbibed in the culture and people of Bhutan. People live a simple life and our happy and it shows in the Gross National Happiness (GNH) Index which is a unique way to measure the happiness and well-being of the Bhutanese people. My guide was also knowledgeable which helped me gain more insights in their ways of living and Bhuddism too. All in all, it was a trip with lovely memories.

Vinaya's 5 days trip to Bhutan

It was an average trip. By looking at the positive reviews I expected a better service. I travelled solo and it was safe and comfortable but guide they provided was lazy and not interested. He came late one day and skipped few places. Drivers were good. On my way back to airport driver was giving more information than my Bhutan guide. Guide Namgey was good on first day who had to rush for an emergency, only to be replaced by a bad guide. Their choice of hotels are not so good as they are away from the city in Thimphu and Paro. I liked Thimphu hotel though. Travel agents were helpful sometimes but I had to ask them driver and guide details multiple times which was frustrating. Sometimes there was poor or late response. I realised that the guide skipped places at the end of the tour and they stopped replying to my messages or calls without even acknowledging their mistake. They even blamed me for not informing earlier. I wasn't expecting to be cheated like this, otherwise I would have been cautious. It was my mistake ultimately according to them. They haven't acknowledged guide mistake till now. Please choose your travel agents carefully.

Dibyajyoti's 7 days trip to Bhutan

**Review of My Incredible Bhutan Trip** I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bhutan, and I can’t say enough about the incredible experience I had, thanks to our exceptional travel agent and our wonderful tour guide. From start to finish, the trip was wonderfully organized, allowing us to immerse ourselves fully in the beauty and culture of this enchanting country. Our travel agent was outstanding, taking the time to understand our preferences and crafting a personalized itinerary that perfectly balanced sightseeing and relaxation. Every detail was meticulously planned, from our accommodation to our daily activities, making the entire experience seamless and stress-free. Our tour guide named "Kinkuu" , a remarkable woman, felt like a family member from the very first moment we met her. She was not only knowledgeable and professional but also warm and caring. Her passion for Bhutanese culture shone through in every interaction. She enriched our experience with fascinating stories and insights about local customs, making us feel connected to the heart of Bhutan. The cabs provided were comfortable and reliable, ensuring that our journeys through the breathtaking landscapes were as enjoyable as the destinations themselves. The roads may be winding, but the views along the way were nothing short of spectacular. We explored the vibrant capital city of Thimphu, where modernity meets tradition. The stunning architecture, such as the Tashichho Dzong, left us in awe. Wandering through the local markets, we encountered warm, welcoming people who were eager to share their culture. This sense of hospitality was a recurring theme throughout our trip. Punakha was another highlight, with its majestic dzong situated at the confluence of two rivers. The scenic beauty here is unparalleled, especially when surrounded by the lush green valleys and the stunning backdrop of the Himalayas. The hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten was invigorating, and the views from the top were absolutely worth it—an unforgettable sight that captured the essence of Bhutan. Finally, our visit to Paro was magical. The iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched on a cliff, was a breathtaking trek that offered both a physical challenge and a spiritual reward. The serenity of the location, combined with the clear blue skies and crisp mountain air, made it a highlight of our journey. Throughout our travels, we were continually impressed by the pristine environment. Bhutan’s commitment to preserving its natural beauty is evident everywhere—from the clean streets to the unspoiled landscapes. The air was fresh, and the atmosphere was tranquil, providing a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In summary, my trip to Bhutan was a dream come true, and I wholeheartedly recommend this destination to anyone seeking adventure and serenity. With the help of our fantastic travel agent, our exceptional tour guide who felt like family, and the stunning locations of Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro, it was an experience I will cherish forever. Bhutan’s blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and warm hospitality is truly unmatched. 1) The remarkable and breathtaking trek to Tiger's nest 2) Stay at punakha, though the other hotels were better, but the location of the hotel and the view worth the money spent

Tips For Travellers

  • Most vendors in Bhutan accept the Indian rupee but make sure you have change in the local currency with you when you travel.
  • Another important thing to remember is that Bhutan is the only country in the world that has banned the sale of tobacco. Smoking is absolutely prohibited in public places. If you wish to smoke make sure you do it indoors.
  • Also pack warm clothes as Bhutan is cool throughout the year. You may also experience changes in air pressure which may lead to headache and nausea so come prepared with the required medication.
  • Another reason you may require medication is the winding roads around the mountains which may lead to motion sickness.

There is so much about Bhutan that prove the fact that it is a must visit place for anybody who loves travelling. You can enjoy the solitude and serenity of the mountains and valleys or engage yourself in a trek, becoming one with nature in the best way. The beautiful temples and monasteries are also places you must see in your lifetime— they will change your outlook in life and give you peace you have never experienced before.
