Rated 3.50/5 ( based on 10 reviews )
How To Reach Digha
Digha, a popular seaside resort town in West Bengal, lies in the Purba Medinipur district near the Odisha border. The city lies on the northern end of the coastline of the Bay of Bengal. In the wintertime, lots of tourists visit Digha to relax on its beaches and participate in water sports, but how to reach Digha is a question that puzzles many people. Digha doesn’t have an airport, and its railway station is also a new one (established in 2004). Most people travelling to Digha take a flight to Kolkata and then a bus or a cab to Digha. Let’s look at the best and most convenient ways to reach Digha in West Bengal in detail.
By Air
The nearest airport from Digha is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) of Kolkata, about 185 km away. The Kolkata Airport is one of the biggest ones in India and the primary one serving regions in eastern and northeastern India. Daily flights between Kolkata and Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Mumbai can be found. It also connects internationally to many countries. Once you reach Kolkata, you can take a state-run bus, book a cab, or take a taxi outside the airport and head to Digha. The distance is easily covered in 4-5 hours.
By Train
Digha Railway Station is one of the newest and smallest railway stations in West Bengal. It is on the Tamluk–Digha branch line. Only 15 weekly trains run from Digha. 11 trains start from, and four terminate at Digha Railway Station. The railway network connects Digha to Howrah, Visakhapatnam, Malda, Puri, and Asansol. Most people arrive at Howrah first and take the train to Digha. The Howrah-to-Digha trains are the most frequent. You can also reach Kharagpur by train and then pivot to a road journey to Digha.
By Road
Digha is connected by road to nearby cities and towns like Howrah, Kolkata, Contai, Kharagpur, and Midnapur. National Highway 116B passes through Contai and Digha. Most tourists take a bus from Kolkata because the journey to Digha is short (4-5 hours). The roads aren’t the best, but the journey can be tolerable for shorter durations. Travelling in the mornings is advised to avoid traffic on the highway.
