How To Reach Andaman From Pune + Updated June 2026

By AirBy RoadBy TrainBy Sea
Pune to Andaman8.3 hours---

The only practical way to reach Andaman from Pune is to fly. There is no nonstop service, so you take a one-stop flight from Pune (PNQ) through Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru or Kolkata to Port Blair (IXZ), roughly 5 to 8 hours in all. The islands sit about 2,160 km away in the Bay of Bengal, so there is no road or rail crossing. From Port Blair a ferry carries you on to Havelock or Neil.

Route Time Notes
Pune to Andaman (by air) ~8.3 h avg (5 to 8 h typical) One stop required
By road Not possible No road; islands ~1,200 km offshore
By train Mainland leg only Pune to Chennai/Bengaluru, then fly or sail
By sea Indirect only Govt ships from Chennai/Kolkata/Vizag, not Pune

Flights From Pune to Andaman: Airlines and Routes

Five airlines connect Pune with Port Blair, all with a single stop: IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa Air. The layover is almost always Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru or Kolkata. Chennai and Bengaluru tend to give the shortest total times because they are closer to the islands, Mumbai has the most frequent connections, and Kolkata suits an eastern routing. If your fare routes through Mumbai, the same one-stop logic applies from there, see our guide on how to reach Andaman from Mumbai.

Mode Possible? Time Notes / Route
By Air (1-stop) Yes (only practical way) ~5 to 8 h Via Mumbai/Chennai/Bengaluru/Kolkata
By Sea (mainland ship) Indirect only ~3 to 4 days + travel No ship from Pune; govt ships from Chennai/Kolkata/Visakhapatnam
By Train Two-leg workaround 2 to 3 days total Pune to Chennai/Kolkata by rail, then fly or sail
By Road Not possible Not applicable No road crossing; islands ~1,200 km offshore

Pune to Andaman Flight Cost (Fare Bands)

Fares swing with how far ahead you book and the season. Off-peak, a one-stop ticket booked three to six weeks out is the sweet spot; peak dates around December, January and long weekends run higher.

Route Type Typical One-Way Fare When It Applies
1-stop via Mumbai/Chennai/Bengaluru Rs 8,000 to Rs 13,000 Booked 3 to 6 weeks ahead, off-peak
1-stop, peak season (Dec to Jan / long weekends) Rs 13,000 to Rs 20,000+ Peak demand or late booking
Longer 2-stop / overnight layover ~Rs 7,000+ Most time but lowest fare
Measure Figure Notes
Aerial / straight-line ~2,160 km Per EaseMyTrip, ixigo, Goibibo
By flight (1-stop, actual flown) ~2,400 to 2,700 km Longer due to mainland layover
By road Not applicable No road route available

By Train or Bus to the Mainland, Then Fly or Sail

You cannot drive, take a train or catch a bus the whole way, because the islands sit about 1,200 km out in the Bay of Bengal. What budget travellers do is cover the mainland leg overland and only fly or sail the sea crossing. By train, the Pune to Chennai run takes about 22 to 26 hours (roughly 1,600 km on services like the Chennai Express), and Pune to Bengaluru about 18 to 20 hours; from either city you board a flight or a government ship to Port Blair. By bus, overnight coaches link Pune with Bengaluru in around 14 to 16 hours. Overland saves airfare but costs two to three extra days each way, so most Pune travellers still fly the full route and let a Pune to Andaman holiday package bundle the flights and ferries.

Entry Permits and Travel Formalities (Pune Travellers)

Indian citizens need no permit for the main islands of Port Blair, Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep); just carry a government photo ID such as an Aadhaar card, passport or driving licence. Foreign nationals are registered on arrival at the airport or seaport. A few tribal or outlying areas, Baratang among them, still need a local permit issued on-site, so plan those day trips with a local operator. This is the one area where Pune travellers most often over-worry: for a standard Port Blair, Havelock and Neil trip there is nothing to arrange before you fly.

After You Land: Port Blair to Havelock and Neil

Most Pune itineraries land at Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair and then continue by ferry. Private catamarans such as Makruzz, Nautika and Green Ocean run alongside government ferries: Port Blair to Havelock takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, and Port Blair to Neil about 1 to 1.5 hours. Book the ferry a day or two ahead during the December to January peak, when the fast catamarans sell out. For the wider island guide, things to do and where to stay, see our Andaman travel guide.

Once you have mapped your route, the simplest way to lock in flights, ferries and island stays in one booking is a ready-made, customisable Andaman tour package from Pune.

Jagan's 7 days trip to Andaman

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Testimonial for Peral Andaman Our Andaman trip was truly unforgettable, and all the credit goes to Peral Andaman for their excellent planning and support. From ferry bookings and hotel arrangements to sightseeing and activity coordination, everything was managed professionally and without a
ny hassle. The team was always available to assist us, ensuring our journey was smooth and enjoyable. The ferry travel between Port Blair, Havelock, Neil Island, and Ross Island was well coordinated, and their guidance helped us make the most of our time. The early morning sightseeing, the unique 58 km convoy journey through the tribal reserve, the breathtaking beaches, and the amazing water sports made this trip one of the best vacations we've had. My suggestion to anyone visiting Andaman is to plan at least 6 nights and 7 days to enjoy the islands at a relaxed pace. Thank you once again, Peral Andaman, for your outstanding service, hospitality, and continuous support. We highly recommend your team to anyone planning an Andaman holiday. A big thank you to Peral Andaman for helping make our Andaman trip a wonderful and memorable experience. Everything was very well organized, and your support throughout the journey was truly appreciated. Your excellent coordination, prompt assistance, and friendly service made our vacation completely stress-free. We had an amazing time because of your team's efforts. A few tips for anyone planning an Andaman trip: - Ferry tickets should be booked well in advance, especially for the routes Port Blair → Havelock → Neil Island → Port Blair → Ross Island, to get the best timings and avoid last-minute issues. - Be prepared for early mornings. Most sightseeing starts between 4:00 AM and 7:00 AM, and you'll usually return to your hotel only around 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM after a full day of activities. - One of the unique experiences is the 58 km journey through the tribal reserve, where travel is allowed only with a police convoy while going and returning. It is a truly different experience and offers a glimpse of the region's unique environment. - The destinations are absolutely beautiful, and the water sports and adventure activities are fantastic. They are a must-try for anyone visiting the islands. Overall, I highly recommend planning at least 6 nights and 7 days to comfortably explore the major islands and enjoy all the attractions without rushing. Once again, thank you, Peral Andaman, for your outstanding support and making our holiday so special. I highly recommend your services to anyone planning an Andaman vacation!

Mr's 5 days trip to Andaman

Overall Experience: While the itinerary ultimately covered all the promised destinations, the first few days of the trip were highly stressful due to poor breakfast service, below-average accommodations, transportation discrepancies, and lack of support from both the booking partner and local agent
    s. 1. Breakfast Service (First 2 Days) Day 1: My flight timings changed, and I requested an early breakfast, which was denied. While I understood the policy, it set a disappointing tone. Day 2: We had an early morning checkout to travel to Havelock Island. We were provided a packed breakfast consisting only of low-quality bread, butter, jam, and a packed mango juice. This was highly unsatisfactory. 2. Havelock Island Accommodations & Itinerary Delays Resort Quality: The resort provided on Havelock Island was extremely poor. The rooms felt like below-average huts, resulting in a terrible experience. Service Delay: It took almost an hour of arguing to get our room changed. Lack of Local Agent Support: Because of the room change, our itinerary ran late. The local agent asked why we were running late and insensitively suggested we should have gone on the tour first and changed rooms later. It is unreasonable to expect guests to go out without freshening up first. 3. Transport Issues Havelock Island: We were initially given an Alto to travel to Radhanagar Beach, which did not match what was promised during booking. After confronting the agent, they upgraded us to a Scorpio for the return journey to the resort. Neil Island: The driver on Neil Island was incredibly rushed, constantly forcing us to hurry through our sightseeing because he had another group of guests waiting for his next trip. 4. Discounts and Financial Discrepancies We were promised a 40% discount on water sports activities, but this was not honored. We were forced to pay the full price/whatever rate was quoted on-site, with zero assistance from your team. 5. Booking Partner & Coordinator Support The resort provided on Neil Island was very good, and the final legs of the trip went smoothly. However, the travel partner we booked through provided almost no assistance during the trip. It felt like we had to figure everything out on our own, and we were left entirely at the mercy of the local agent. Conclusion The lack of coordination, poor initial accommodations, and unhelpful local support made the first few days of our vacation incredibly uneasy and stressful. I expect a formal response regarding the unhonored discounts and the standard of service provided

    Frequently Asked Questions

Get your answers — before you plan your trip.

    Andaman Travel FAQs

How can I reach Andaman from Pune?

Fly from Pune (PNQ) with one stop at Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru or Kolkata to Port Blair (IXZ), about 5 to 8 hours in total. There is no nonstop flight and no road, rail or direct ship from Pune. From Port Blair you continue to Havelock or Neil by ferry.

Are there direct (nonstop) flights from Pune to Andaman?

No. Every route has at least one layover, usually at Mumbai, Chennai or Bengaluru. A nonstop Pune to Port Blair flight does not exist, so plan for a connecting service and a short wait at the hub.

Which airlines fly from Pune to Andaman (Port Blair)?

IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa Air all serve the route with one stop. The connecting city is usually Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru or Kolkata, so compare a few carriers for the shortest layover.

Which layover city is best when travelling from Pune to Andaman?

Chennai and Bengaluru usually give the shortest total times because they are closer to the islands. Mumbai has the most frequent connections, and Kolkata works well for an eastern routing. Pick the hub with the tightest, most reliable connection.

How long does it take to reach Andaman from Pune?

About 5 to 8 hours by air including the layover, depending on the connecting city and the wait between flights. A smooth Chennai or Bengaluru connection sits at the lower end, while a long Mumbai or Kolkata layover pushes it higher.

How far is Andaman from Pune?

The aerial distance is roughly 2,160 km. The islands sit in the Bay of Bengal and can be reached only by air or sea, so the actual flown distance runs longer, about 2,400 to 2,700 km with a mainland layover.

Is ship travel possible from Pune to Andaman?

Not directly. Government passenger ships to Port Blair sail only from Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam, and the crossing takes about 3 to 4 days. From Pune you would first reach one of those ports and then sail, which is why almost everyone flies instead.

What is the cheapest way to travel from Pune to Andaman?

The lowest air fares are on longer two-stop or overnight connections, from about Rs 7,000 one-way when booked 3 to 6 weeks ahead. A train or bus to Chennai or Kolkata followed by a government ship is cheaper still, but it costs two to three days each way.

How much does it cost to fly from Pune to Andaman?

Expect roughly Rs 8,000 to Rs 13,000 one-way off-peak and Rs 13,000 to Rs 20,000 or more in peak season around December, January and long weekends. Booking three to six weeks ahead and avoiding peak dates keeps fares near the lower band.

What is the best time to travel from Pune to Andaman?

October to mid-May is the reliable window, with December and January the busy peak. The June to September monsoon brings rough seas that disrupt ferries and water activities, so shoulder months like October, November and February give good weather and calmer prices.

Do Pune travellers need a permit to visit Andaman?

Indian citizens need no permit for the main islands of Port Blair, Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep); just carry a government photo ID. Foreign nationals are registered on arrival, and a few tribal or outlying areas such as Baratang need a local permit issued on-site.

How do I get from Port Blair to Havelock or Neil after landing?

Take a private catamaran such as Makruzz, Nautika or Green Ocean, or a government ferry. Port Blair to Havelock takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and Port Blair to Neil about 1 to 1.5 hours. Book ferries in advance during the December to January peak.

Can I do a Pune to Andaman trip on a budget?

Yes. Book flights early, travel in the shoulder season, choose connecting flights over the quickest routing and use government ferries between islands. Overland travel to a mainland port followed by a ship is the cheapest of all if you can spare the extra days.

Is Andaman suitable for first-time travellers from Pune?

Yes. The main islands need no permit for Indian citizens, English and Hindi are widely spoken, and the Port Blair to Havelock to Neil circuit is well served by ferries. A one-stop flight and a ready-made package make the trip straightforward for first-timers.

Can I travel from Pune to Andaman by bus?

Not the whole way. No bus reaches the islands, which lie about 1,200 km offshore in the Bay of Bengal. You can take an overnight bus from Pune to a mainland hub such as Bengaluru, around 14 to 16 hours, and then fly to Port Blair. This only pays off if you have time to spare, so most Pune travellers still fly the full route.

What is the cheapest way to reach Andaman from Pune?

The lowest air fares sit on longer two-stop or overnight connections, from about Rs 7,000 one-way booked three to six weeks ahead. Cheaper still is going overland, a train or bus to Chennai or Bengaluru and then a government ship to Port Blair, though that adds two to three days each way. Travelling in the October to mid-May shoulder season keeps prices down.

How do I go to Andaman from Pune by train?

There is no rail line to the islands, so the train covers only the mainland leg. From Pune you can reach Chennai in about 22 to 26 hours or Bengaluru in roughly 18 to 20 hours, then continue by flight to Port Blair or by government ship from Chennai. The rail-plus-ship route is the budget option, but it is slow and ships sail only a few times a month.
