Best Time To Visit Brussels
Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination
The best time to visit Brussels is in the shoulder season in the months of March to May and September to October when the temperature ranges from 8°C to 19°C. Brussels sees the highest number of travelers during the shoulder season as the weather is perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Veteran travelers would say that one can visit Brussels all-year around, but for beginners, shoulder season is probably the best time to visit Brussels, the Belgian capital. The home to the headquarters of the EU, numerous ancient and medieval landmarks and the best chocolate in the world is a fascinating hub for tourists of Western Europe. From May to October, Brussels buzzes with tourists from all around the world.
March-May (8°C to 17°C)
March to May is a shoulder season for Brussels tourism, as the peak summer season is yet to begin. During this time, you will get a particularly pleasant climate, with a hint of cold left from winter and the spring slowly breaking into summer. There can be occasional precipitation, which would make the weather colder for a while, but not for long. This is the best time to visit Brussels if you want to enjoy the best of both worlds.
The most notable event during these months is Iris Day Festival which is held in May.
June-August (15°C to 20°C)
June marks the proper arrival of summer as well as tourists in Brussels. Officially, this is the peak season for European tourism and Brussels is a big part of it. Temperature rises and stays high on average. After sundown, evenings get pleasantly cool. August however can bring in some prolonged showers but apart from that it is the best season to visit Brussels.
If you are planning to visit Brussels in June, make sure to attend Ommegang Pageant and if planning in July, attend the national day of Belgium.
September-November (11°C to 19°C)
This time is once again a shoulder season, and true to its nature, it has good weather conditions and lower rates, thus making it perfect for off-time travellers. Those who have no problem visiting at a time other than the popular idea of when to visit Brussels, they can easily go for the autumn season. Enjoy the plummeting prices before it starts getting cold. Do carry light woollens, as it would not be particularly warm during this time.
Balloons Day Parade is held in the month of September every year.
December-February (3°C to 6°C)
Winters in Brussels are very cold, often wet and quite uncomfortable. Temperature starts dropping from November end. Brussels in December has quite a chilly temperature. If you are coming from a warm location and not accustomed to this kind of cold, then it is better you wait out the winter months. By the time of the holiday season and January, it drops to sub-zero.
Attend the famous Winter Wonders Festival in December.
