Travel To Brussels
The most convenient way to visit Brussels from India is by taking a flight to Belgium. Taking a connecting flight from Delhi (DEL) to Brussels (BRU) by Finnair or Mumbai to Brussels by SWISS or Lufthansa Airlines. The country is bordered by France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg on the land side and North Sea on the waterside. At its heart lies Brussels, home to 2 million people. The transportation system of Brussels serves its city well, and so do the long-distance modes for tourists and expats.
How to reach Brussels from India
The best way to go from India to Brussels is by flight. The Brussels International Airport or Zaventam Airport as it is referred to locally, has multiple incoming flights from Indian airports on a daily basis. The airport is the 21st busiest airport in Europe, catering to over 23 million global flyers every day. Majority of the India to Brussels flights connect via other European cities like Munich, Amsterdam, Istanbul, London or Paris. Mumbai is the only city with direct nonstop flights to the Belgian capital, flown by the country’s own Brussels Airlines. Major airlines serving the airport also include British Airways, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, KLM and Emirates.
The airport is around 11km from the city centre and there are quick and direct train links to go from the SNCB station under the airport terminal to Brussels’ main train stations. Trains leave every 15 minutes and reach within 17-18 minutes. One can take cabs or buses as well. One cannot go straight from India to Brussels by roadway or railway by any means. But there sure are many train and bus services from the adjacent European cities to Brussels location.
By Air
Travelling by air is the best option to reach Brussels from India. Mumbai has five direct flights every week to Brussels, which also happens to serve the best India to Brussels flight time. The duration is 9 hours 50 minutes. The flight is operated by Brussels Airlines and flies on every day of the week except Sunday and Wednesday. Lufthansa and Swiss Air have 11 hours 35 minutes flights from Mumbai via Munich and Zurich, while Turkish Airlines takes 20 minutes longer. From Delhi, the best flights are flown by Finnair, KLM or Lufthansa, each of them timing a little more than 11 hours. But Delhi or any other city does not have nonstop flights, which means there will be layovers for an hour or more at cities like Helsinki, Amsterdam, Munich, Zurich, Frankfurt, London et cetera.
By Train
Travelling by train is a very common form of transportation in Western Europe. The main Brussels train station is Central-Centraal located right in the city centre. Midi-Zuid serves the south and Nord-Noord serves the north. Another station is the one corresponding to the airport. One can catch Brussels train from almost all the nearby cities – Paris, Cologne, Amsterdam and Berlin by Thalys trains. The Benelux route via Eurail is very popular, where you get a combined pass for Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. Eurostar connects Brussels at Midi station with London via the Channel Tunnel. Thalys runs a daily 1 hour 15 minutes high speed train from Paris-Nord to Brussels-Midi.
By Road
It is not unheard of to travel from India all the way to Brussels by road. But those who do seek to make records. It is not the way to go for a regular vacation. However, from other cities of the EU, bus services are plenty. Germany, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France and UK have easy bus services to the Midi and Nord stations.
