History.
The Grand Place was built back in the 10th century when a fort was constructed, which marked the beginning of Brussels. After that, the marketplace was set up which further grew to be one of the most important squares of the city. The Grand Place was destructed by the French during the war in the 1695 and was built again with more Gothic monuments. The Grand Place gained its importance when the King’s fort was built in here. There are many monuments and museums in here which enhances the harm of the marketplace. The Grand Place is even declared as UNESCO world heritage site as it holds many important historic monuments and palaces in here.
