Brussels Travel Guide
From the pages of history to the pictures of comic books to the map of Europe, the presence of Belgium’s capital Brussels is illustrious and its influence- unbridled. The city of Brussels, Belgium is one of the premier hubs of not only Europe, but of the entire western world, which makes it worth for everyone to get on Brussels tourism once in a lifetime. An excursion to this bilingual capital is a real treat for history enthusiasts and a hippie alike. Crammed with amazing restaurants and cafes, hip bars, thriving nightlife, numerous museums, and plenty of attractions, it is becoming one of the best destinations to visit in Europe. Get on a Brussels tour, and find how its magnificent attractions transfer its each visitor to an imaginary world.
Honeymoon in Brussels:
Add some enticing memories to your life while cherishing beautiful moments with your partner on a honeymoon tour to Brussels. Take our recommendation, and do visit to places, like: the Sonian Forest, Burg Square, the Ghent city centre, and many more while digging into the rich history of Belgium and savouring sumptuous cuisines.
Festivals in Brussels:
One of the main reasons why summer is so crowded in the city is because of the Brussels Summer Festival – a ten-day long fest of music and other cultural events. It usually takes place in August at the Royal Palace of Brussels, Place des Palais and the surrounding areas. In winter, Christmas and the Winter Wonders festival are magical to say the least.
Historical Places in Brussels:
Brussels city tour is first and foremost about its historical places. Tracing the city’s history begins at the Grand Palace and then the Town Hall. Visit The King’s House in front of town hall and its museum for a tour down Brussels’ rich history. Another attraction is the Royal Palace, which at one point belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte as well. The Martyr’s Square, the Black Tower and Palace Ruins are also to be included in the itinerary.
Shopping in Brussels:
Grand Palace or Grote Markt is the nerve centre of Brussels. Other than the famous flower market throughout the warm seasons, there are many other shops surrounding the area. Other famous shopping areas would be the pedestrian-only Rue Neuve, which is the second-busiest shopping street in all of Belgium after Meir in Antwerp. There are international chains as well as local galleries. For some luxurious shopping experience, hit the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert neighbourhood. Shopping in your Brussels tour would be incomplete without exploring the city’s flea markets – the Old Market in the Marollen area or the Sablon neighbourhood are ideal places to pick up antiquities at pocket-friendly prices.
Here are some of the best attractions of Brussels City.
1. Grand Palace:
The Grand Palace, or Grote Markt in Dutch, is the primary attraction of Brussels. Though it had a humble beginning as a lower market set in a swampy sandbank between two brooks, it has turned into the grandeur it is now over the years. Now it is the main market area with cobbled streets and elegant guild houses, and is the centre of any Brussels walking tour. From March to October, there is a daily flower market along with concerts and shows bringing the place alive.
2. Manneken Pis:
Almost everyone is familiar with the statue of a small, chubby, pissing boy. In case you didn’t know, its home is at Brussels and Manneken Pis is an important character in the folklore of Brussels. The statue is occasionally dressed in various avatars at different times. Manneken has a couple of lesser known friends, a girl called Jeanneke Pis and a dog, Zinneke.
3. Comic Strip Centre:
This is an unconventional place of interest, but should be in integral part of your Brussels tourism if you are interested in comics. Belgium has more comic artists per area square than any other country. Comic Strip Centre is dedicated to this heritage in the form of exhibition and shops, and an entire section solely to Belgium’s most famous and beloved character Tintin.
4. Heysel Park and Atomium:
Heysel Park is infamous for the 1985 European Champions Cup final tragedy, where fans of Italian football club Juventus were injured badly, some killed, by a mob attack by Liverpool club fans. The stadium part was later redesigned and renamed, but Heysel Park remained as a place for recreation and leisure. One of its highlights is the 335 ft tall Atomium, which is 165 billion times enlarged presentation of an iron molecule, established in 1958 World Fair to mark the new era of ‘atomic age’. After appreciating the colossal structure from ground, you can take the elevator to the top in just 23 seconds to grab a drink and a bird’s eye view of Brussels.
5. Hotel de Ville – Town House:
The Hotel de Ville is one of the most famous Art Nouveau architecture of Brussels. The Hotel de Ville dates back to 1402 and has both classical and gothic designs gracing its exteriors, including one of St Michael slaying a she-devil. There is a Brabantine Gothic tower 96m high, from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Brussels yet again.
Famous Cuisines in Brussels:
Being counted amongst the gastronomic destinations, people of this city are known for their love for food and drinks. Hence, on an excursion to Brussels, one can munch on various food items, like: waffles, chocolates, fries and cold beer. Besides this, one can also cherish other famous food items including: meatballs, Flemish stew, grey shrimp croquettes, mussels and more. To treat your taste buds to these delicious items, visit to some top food spots, like: Restaurant le Rabassier, Comme Chez Soi, Pasta Divina, Bon Bon and more.

y week to Brussels, which also happens to serve the best India to Brussels flight time. The duration is 9 hours 50 minutes. The flight is operated by Brussels Airlines and flies on every day of the week except Sunday and Wednesday. Lufthansa and Swiss Air have 11 hours 35 minutes flights from Mumbai via Munich and Zurich, while Turkish Airlines takes 20 minutes longer. From Delhi, the best flights are flown by Finnair, KLM or Lufthansa, each of them timing a little more than 11 hours.
