About Mughal Gardens In New Delhi
Mughal Garden exemplifies the love of Mughals for landscaped garden and fad for magnificent architecture.
The Mughal legacy left Delhi with verdant gardens and parks that enhance the aesthetic sense even to the present times. Sprawling over a large arena of 15 acres, the Mughal Garden New Delhi was extensively inspired by the gardens at Jammu and Kashmir and the Taj Mahal in Agra. Sir Edward Lutyens, the master architecture behind the Rashtrapati Bhawan, also designed the Garden in order to bring together the intersecting elements of Mughal-style and English architectural and horticultural traditions.History of Mughal Garden In New Delhi Mughal Gardens was one of the favorite types of garden for the founder of the Mughal empire, Babur. It was earlier known as charbagh. During the rule of Mughals, bageecha or baug was the term used for gardens. According to Babur it was one of a kind. As India did not have the rapid flowing streams that was required for the Central Asian charbagh, this was a venture to do so. The Aram Bagh of Agra is supposed to be the first charbagh in South Asia. Detailed textual analyses of the Mughal gardens are also found in the memoirs and biographies of Babur, Humayun and Akbar. Located in the premises of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mughal Garden boasts extravagant foliage, fountains, climbing roses, symmetrical lawns and wandering peacocks. It is said that Louis Mountbatten, last British viceroy of India, employed 418 gardeners for the Mughal Garden in India. The beauty is such that you just cannot miss out taking a tour of the palace-garden. Sadly, the royal tourist attraction does not remain open for visitors all throughout the year. It remains open for a month that is during Feb-March. And if you are in town during this month, do visit the spectacular Mughal Garden! Also, the famous Udyanotsav offers you to gawk at the 159 varieties of rose, more than 100 types of bougainvillaea and hundreds of several other flora. Structure of Mughal Garden In New Delhi Derived exclusively from the idea behind the medieval Islamic garden, the Mughal Gardens in Delhi have been constructed with inspiration from the Mughals’ Turkish-Mongolian ancestry. It is often described as “a hortus conclusus, walled off and protected from the outside world”. The rigid and formal design, and pleasing inner space are the special features of the Garden. There is a pool in the garden that reflects the beauties of sky and garden. There are several trees that produce shade and fruits. Birds flock here during evening when the weather is pleasant. The The Garden features distinct Turkish-Mongolian elements of the Mughal times. Facts of Mughal Garden In New Delhi The Mughal Gardens are located just behind the Rashtrapati Bhavan. It constitutes both Mughal and English landscaping styles. Six lotus shaped fountains are situated at the crossing of the two channels in Mughal Garden. The fountains rise to a height of 12 feet while producing murmuring sounds. More than 250 gorgeous varieties of roses are found in the garden. Therefore, it is one of the best Rose Gardens in the world. It also has the rare green rose. During the evening, one can spot peacocks moving leisurely around the premises of the gardens. There are around 15 evergreen fragrant shrubs and creepers which are planted along the terrace walls and look fresher than ever during every visit.
