Akshardham Temple, also known as Swaminarayan Akshardham, stands firm on values and traditions of Hinduism. Along with its magnificent architecture, Akshardham Mandir also boasts large format film and multimedia fountain show. The entire complex of Akshardham Temple is constructed out of pink sandstone and marble. The idols of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Shri Radha-Krishna, Shri Sita-Ram, Shri Lakshmi-Narayan and Shri Parvati-Shiva are placed in the finely crafted altars. History of Akshardham Temple
The history of Akshardham temple shows that 93 pillars are present inside it. These pillars are finely sculpted and have more than 40 windows with carving from either side. These carvings let the patterns look even more gorgeous when viewed from outside. These pillars carvings are immensely poetic and look wonderful. The narrations are devotions towards the Hindu culture. Akshardham Temple has also its name in the Guinness book of world record. It is highly revered among Hindus from all over the country. Architecture of Akshardham
The architecture of Akshardham Temple in Delhi bears a resemblance to its sister complex in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. During its construction, eight efficient men were hired who were men of holy stature and scholars. The scholars have mastered in the art of Pancharatra Shastra, a Hindu scripture on architecture and deity carvings. A huge number of 11,000 artisans were hired for the construction of the temple. Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple is a remarkable symbol of India’s cultural and heritage.
Things to do at Akshardham Temple
The complex of Akshardham Temple includes more than a temple alone. There is a water show, theme garden, hall of values, IMAX film depicting the life of Swaminarayan, cultural boat ride and others.
Take a cultural boat ride which lasts for 15 minutes. You will have a robot explaining to you the lifestyle of Indians in the vedic period and contribution of several eminent personalities.
The theatre, Nilkanth Darshan, holds a 40-min film showcasing the pilgrimage which was undertaken by Swaminarayan. IMAX theatres play the film. You can pray to the Hindu deity which is located just outside the theatre.
There are robotic displays that depict the life of Swaminarayan in the hall of Values or Sahajanand Darshan.Values of non-violence, prayers, vegetarianism, morality and others are preached here through 3D dioramas that uses light and sound effects along with dialogues and music.
Akshardham water show is another interesting activity that takes place here. Be a witness to this dramatic show when you are in the temple complex.
