Walk Across the Covered Passages of Paris

In the 19th and 18th century, Paris in the areas which are around Grands Boulevards were built with glass roofed shopping galleries which are called the covered passages. They are the forerunners to the concept of malls today which provided a shopping experience in the shelter from rain. Dine, shop and also spend some romantic moments at these covered passages. These covered passages in Paris are the symbols of amazing architecture. There are some which will attract any travelers and it would be a great miss if one does not spend some time at these amazing spots.

Galerie Vivienne

It is the gracious gem which dates back to the year 1873. This covered passage is in great condition with well-polished wrought iron, glass and wood. The corridors are mosaic inland and the plants give it a great look. It is an elegant place an amazing experience even during the busy times and makes it a great pleasure for browsing chic boutiques, the bijou toy store, venerable wine cellar, Jean Paul Gaultier and deli Legrand Filles et Fils.

Passage Choiseul

The passage was built in the year 1825 and it is the place where Louis Ferdinand Celine, the popular French novelist of 20th century has spent their childhood here. The passage became the trend by the 1970s with the opening of a boutique by Kenzo here. This is the passage which is famous for the original bar sieste, book shops, art galleries and boutique restaurants.

Passage du Grand Cerf

This passage has arcades with the heat glass and was built in the year 1825. It was built on the site of popular hotel du Grand Cerf. It is one of the most beautiful covered passages in Paris. The interior of the passage is very pleasing with the high quality jewelry, fashion, artisan shops and curious crafts. It is the best place to buy a gift for a loved one. It does need some effort for anyone to find this covered passage but it is the one which is really worth it.

Passage des Panoramas

It is one of the oldest covered passages in the city of Paris. It was built in the year 1799 and it passes through the ninth and second arrondissements. It originally housed a bazaar with the exotic oriental wares and now the place is occupied by characterful bars and restaurants which include Noglu. The covered passages of Paris are a great spot for travelers and one should definitely not miss this experience.
