How to Go to Athens

There are numerous India to Athens flights that are operating frequently from the major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and more. However, most Mumbai to Athens or Delhi to Athens flights make a stopover at various European cities like Istanbul, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Dubai, or Zurich or Budapest in Europe. Depending on the number of stops, a flight can take up to 32 hours to reach Athens.

Though, it is not possible to visit Athens from India via rail, traveling to Athens via train from other European countries is a very common occurrence. Rail Europe offers high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and regional trains from capital cities like Istanbul of Turkey, Belgrade of Serbia, Budapest of Hungary, Sofia of Bulgaria, Sarajevo of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vienna of Austria, Zurich of Switzerland and Munich of Germany. Many people opt for the trans-Europe luxurious train journey for a spectacular view from the Swiss Alps to the sunny Mediterranean. Within the city, Athens Railway Station or Larissa Station is the main railway hub that connects the long distance, suburban and metro lines.

Although India and Greece are connected by a small strip of land, it is impossible in reality to make the journey from Delhi to Athens or from any other city. The roadway takes one from India to Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and then to Greece while crossing the European border. The 5000 km distance is neither politically or geographically easy to conquer, nor is it safe or convenient. However, if you have been traveling throughout Europe, then there are highways connecting other countries to the city. The journey to Athens by bus is long and needs getting on and off many times to change vehicle, but it is great for a road trip. Athens map has two bus terminals – A and B, located at Kifissou Street and Liossion Street, from where buses ferry across Greece. The Athens Central Bus Station has the KTEL Attica buses that cover the suburbs.
