Tourist Places In Athens
The great city of Athens is referred to as the cradle of western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. Although it is now a dazzling metropolis and hub of urban commercialization, much of Athens attractions are rooted in the classical era. Home to one of the world’s oldest mythologies and subsequent great empires, the recorded history of Athens spans over 3400 years at least. Churches, ancient temples and ruins of vintage architectures from the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods make up most of the Athens sightseeing.
The places to visit in Athens are so many that it is difficult to pick few of them and put them in a list. However, here are the Athens points of interests that one should never miss.
1. The Acropolis and the Parthenon
It is difficult to step foot in Athens and not be charmed by the looming figure of the Parthenon amidst the Acropolis, rising above the city in the distance. It is by far the best and most visited Athens tourist destination. Built, battered and rebuilt multiple times since its inception in the Neolithic times, the capital of ancient Greece now stands as a remnant of a lavish and scattered ancient metropolis. The Acropolis is centered by the architectural and mythical marvel Parthenon, the Doric temple for the city’s patron goddess Athena.
2. National Archaeology Museum
The National Archaeological Museum is the flagship museum of Greece and a must-visit Athens tourist attraction. Housed within a neoclassical building in the center of the city, the Museum takes you on a journey from the earliest Neolithic period including Cycladic and Mycenaean periods up to the classical era of Athens. Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Greek – there are old artifacts from every style of art. This museum is often visited along with the Byzantine Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Numismatics Museum. Each of them is unique Athens destinations in their own way.
3. Olympieion, the Temple of Zeus
Dedicated to the King of the Greek Gods and the God of Thunder, the Olympieion is the largest ancient temple in Greece. Though it often gets eclipsed by the popularity and grandeur of the Parthenon, Olympieion is certainly among the best Athens places to visit. Out of the hundred enormous columns that Emperor Hadrian had built, befitting the stature of the God himself, only 15 stands at present. But it is still enough to get a glimpse of the original grandeur of the structure.
4. The ancient Agora
The ancient Agora is an extensive arena, meant for trade and public gathering of the bygone times. The 18-metre long seat of the Archon Basileus is a central attraction, upon which the ruler sat and sentenced. This might have been the spot for Socrates’ trial in 399 BC. The temple of Hephaistos and the Church of the Holy Apostles are illustrious structures in the neighborhood. The younger Roman Agora also lies adjacent to it – another of the best places to visit in Athens, Greece.
5. The Temple of Poseidon
Facing the brilliant blue of the Aegean Sea at the Cape Sounion, the temple of the Greek God of Sea Poseidon is a unique addition to the sightseeing tours in Athens. It is not exactly in Athens but an hour’s drive away, but the effort is worth it. The eerie ambience of the big white columns on the jagged shoreline gives a desolate sense of melancholy amidst the grandeur.
Acropolis Of Athens
One of the greatest architectural contributions by the Greek can be found in the Acropolis of Athens. Located at the height of 150 m above the sea level, the Acropolis of Athens is the ancient Greek Citadel built high above the city of Athens on the rocky outcrop. As a direct reference to the placement of the citadel, Acrop...

Trip to EuropeVishal Thakur had made good itinerary The tour was good and well coordinated including staying in hotels, transport and other facilities.the experience of hop on hop off in Amsterdam , Paris and Athens we're good . Vishal thakur's coordination on phone was really helpful and great.
Trip to EuropeAthens Hotel Marina Athens To start off with Athens is a beautiful city with SOME beautiful people there. Our driver Mr. Konstatino was truly a gentleman, who arrived at the airport much before the scheduled time. He was kind enough to wait for us to exit the arrivals gates. He drove us to our hotel Marina Hotel, Voulgari. Speaking of the Hotel, although the hotel was pretty good in terms of ambiance and rooms, we were kind of worried about the kind of neighborhood. Why? Well, the place was filled with immigrants from all possible countries, Bangladesh, Pakistan and our own country India. These people would hover around the hotel and i felt worried as i was out with my wife. Our security and was kind of compromised. A BIG NO-NO FOR THE LOCATION! The hotel food was not really great, they had very fewer options when it came to breakfast. The room service was prompt, our rooms were tidy up on a daily basis. We really loved the Hopp-on and Hop-off tour that was organised by the agency. Naxos Hotel Alkyoni This was really one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in! The place, food, staff, ambiance each and everything was way beyond our expectations. Amazing experience, we loved the kind of options they provided us for breakfast. The location was also perfect, right beside the beach. where one could literally see the beach from the hotel balcony. Loved the day tour and sunset temple. The property is located almost 1.5-2km from the Naxos port. A must-visit place in case you visit Naxos. Santorini Hotel Olympic. We had not-so-good experience when it was about Santorini. The hotel location (Mesaria) and must-visit sites are located too far away. More than 5kms away from Fira and almost 17-18 km from Oia. The public transport on the entire island is pathetic. Although they have buses scheduled every half an hour, they hardly follow the time table and sometimes they buses don't even bother to stop at the stops, they'll just ignore you and pass by. Our marriage anniversary was spoiled because of this public transport issue. Again a NO-NO for my side, I'd any day prefer Naxos over Santorini. What went wrong? The hotel selection in Santorini and Athens Insufficient information about some basic things like Public transport. We would have loved it if we could get the prompt messages throughout the trip (instead of waiting for us to ask something) As a travel agent, one must know about public transport, and should tell the customer in advance instead of saying "you should have asked me". It was our first time and we were expecting a lot from the agent. We were never informed about the International driving license Indian's would require to hire a bike at Santorini. A little intimation would have saved our efforts in searching buses and waiting at stops for the bus to arrive. Glad we had a sim card which helped us to navigate alot.. without that it would've been a nightmare for us to explore the city on our own.
Trip to AthensOur Greece tour was superb. We had a fantastic time in all three cities Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. Thanks to Mayuri for the timely response and helping us in coordinating the tour. She was available to help us even at odd times. The one problem we faced was with the hotel manager behaviour which was rude in mykonos and the facilities given by them was not upto 4 star. We had to wait for 4 hours to get the room. Otherwise the view from hotel was awesome. We had a wonderful stay in Athens and Santorini. Both were located at the prime location i.e accessible to local restaurants, bus stops and metro. Thanks to Duniya Safari and travel triangle for making this a memorable trip for us.
Trip to AthensI’ll start by summing it up: Everything of our trip to Greece was exceptional and beyond our expectations. Memorable Vacations (my travel agent) and Travel Triangle have made it extra memorable and special for us. Nisar and Krishna Sir from Memorable Vacations and Shilpa from TT, were extremely courteous and have taken extra care of all our requests and customisations. Nisar customised everything according to our wishes. He has taken care of everything from hotels to transfers to internal tours, etc. all while keeping our budget in mind. The hotels at all the places (Athens, Mykonos and Santorini) were very very good. The ones at Mykonos and Santorini were superlative in their location and view. The siteseeings and islands visits were all breathtaking with extremly eye catching views. Of course Greece is one of the most beautiful country of Europe so it tends to be little expensive. But if one can plan this trip 4-5 months in advance, then it can be booked at quite reasonable price. Food wise, Greece is a paradise for Non-Veg lovers. Greek Salad, Cakes & Bakes and Greek Yogurts are out of the world. Overall this trip was totally satisfying for us in all sense. In the entire trip we have not faced with any unpleasant experience. I’ll like to recommend Memorable Vactions (particularly Nisar
Trip to AthensTo an awesome Greece trip arranged by a perfect trip planner! This was my wifes and my first trip outside of India and we wanted it to be planned by an agent rather than doing everything by ourselves. I went with Travel Triangle through which I got in touch with StreetRomeo and Mr Jigar. Thats where started a journey which would make our trip effortlessly awesome! I am a very picky person and i research a lot on the web as well. I also have a lot of questions always. Jigar was always available!! Almost 24/7 - the guy doesn't sleep it seems! He was constantly in touch with me through bookings and through our daily plans. Everything was very professional right from day 1 with booking.. vouchers..day wise plan etc. Everyday Jigar would send us the details for the next day including driver details..points to visit..and others Jigar also handpicked perfect hotels as per our priorities...mine was good hospitality and location..Jigar made sure both were met! Me and my wife went on the following itenary:- 1) 2 days in Athens including hop on hop off tour 2) Athens to Meteora - 2 days including sunset and half day tour 3) 3 days in Santorini Every hotel.. every tour was amazing! We loved the locations..the hospitality of each of our hotels all suggested by Jigar 1) Athens - Hotel Athens Atrium 2) Meteora - Oikia Guesthouse 3) Santorini - Hotel Nemesis Special thanks to Jigar and Travel Triangle for making memories and making such wonderful trips and moreover being available always for anything! I totally recommend StreetRomeo and Jigar for anyone who wants to travel anywhere abroad! Cheers! - Vikram R
Trip to AthensThank you very much Yeeshu for helping us have a great experience during our stay in Greece. The whole experience was really great right from the beginning until the end of the trip. You helped us getting the trip within our budget which included the hotel stay and sight seeing. The staff of each and every hotel we stayed were really nice and friendly. Also thanks for suggesting in changing hotel for Santorini. I would recommend all the three hotels in which we stayed to others. 1. Hotel Marina, Athens 2. Hotel Deliades, Mykonos 3. Glykeria Mini Suites, Santorini. You were always reachable at any given time and assisted in all possible ways. I totally recommend you for anyone who wants to travel anywhere abroad! Kudos to you!!!! Thanks once again for making it memorable.
Trip to AthensIt was a great experience with hub holiday team, they were always there to support whenever we needed, even during our travel in Greece...they have arranged our custom made tour to suit our interest....They have arranged a very good guide in Mykonos who helped us to understand the culture of Mykonos people very well...our Hotels were very good in Santorini and Mykonos with fabulous sea views, except the Athens Marina Hotel place was not that safe, otherwise the hotel was ok...I will definitely recommend Hub Holiday..Thank you so much Amit for the great support ... The whole trip was amazing, the best memories I will always have is Santorini and Mykonos island tour..the cities were so beautiful and the hotels(Leto and Dana Hotel) that our travel agent selected was awesome ..Cruise tour and Santorini Volcano Spring tour was very good...
Trip to AthensThe trip was well in budget however, in Santorini hotel was extremely far away in the middle of no where, seemed like in the country side. However staff was really good there, but there were flies in our room which was a turnoff initially however it was alright. Mykonos hotel was really good, Athens art suites has good rooms but breakfast was extremely frugal. Other wise tour was well handled, excepted for the pickups from the ferry to the room where assistance could have been provided considering the language issues one has specially for transport in greece. Petinos in Mykonos & art suites room. Greece is extremely beautiful.
Trip to AthensThis holiday was planned in a very short span of time. Special thanks to Rohit and Prashant in helping us out get the best deals throughout the trip. They were always available on call and whatsapp even during the entire duration of the trip. I am sure even if I had self planned the trip it couldn’t have been better than this. Greece is a beautiful country and there are plenty things to explore. We had a mix of adventure, history and romantic destinations on our itinerary. In all it was a good trip. Athens to Mykonos cruise trip.
Trip to AthensThe entire trip was very well organized. Garima helped us throughout the process - customizing our itinerary, suggesting places to visit, booking tickets as per our request, and providing assistance in the Visa process. She even helped us with our queries when we were in Greece. The hotels booked for us were simply superb. The hotel staff at Athens was not too friendly though. The sightseeing tours that were booked for us were very nice and hassle free. We faced no issues with pick up/drop, except for the pickup at Santorini but that too was because our ferry reached late, and it was handled well by the Destination Services staff. The itinerary had a perfect balance of activities and leisure time. We enjoyed the trip a lot. Kuods to Garima and Eji Travel Solutions for organizing such a nice and memorable trip for us! Thank you!!
