Best Time To Visit Dwarka
Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination
Located at the mouth of the Gomti River, this sacred town is one of India's most ancient and loveliest. Known for its rich culture and heritage, this city has numerous tales to tell of Lord Krishna and his childhood spent in Dwarka. Lord Krishna here is called Dwarkadeesh. Moreover, Dwarka is home to one of the twelve holy Jyotirlingas, which draws many devotees and pilgrims to this glorious city. Generally, the best time to visit Dwarka is during the winter season. Being located close to the western coast of India, during the summer and monsoon months, the weather can get quite hot and humid during the day, making any attempts at sightseeing oppressive and unbearable.
From November to February, the city sees an influx of millions of tourists visiting the Dwarkadhish Temple. During the festival of Janmashtami, devotees also visit Lord Krishna's childhood abode to participate in the festivities.
Climate in Dwarka
Summer Season in Dwarka
Summers in Dwarka are dry and hot, receiving little to no rainfall. The average temperature in Dwarka during daytime remains in the mid-thirties, with the nights bringing some relief. Occasional sea breezes from the coast also help reduce the heat, but Dwarka weather in summer is more or less intolerable. Spending a day in the sun in such weather can lead to dehydration and fatigue. If not used to such climatic conditions, one should avoid visiting Dwarka in the summer. On the other hand, if you are well-prepared, used to higher temperatures, and equipped with water bottles, sunscreens, and sunglasses, summer might be a good time to visit Dwarka. You can find cheaper accommodation and affordable travel prices.
Monsoon Season in Dwarka
During monsoon season, Dwarka, a coastal city, experiences medium to heavy rain showers. The rain brings much-needed relief from the heat of summer. Although the temperatures are still warm, and humidity increases stuffiness in the air, the ‘real feel’ is much less than the actual temperature, making it bearable to be out and about. Temperatures range between 26 and 31 degrees Celsius. August is usually also the time for Krishna Janmashtami or the birthday of Lord Krishna.
According to the Hindu calendars, this day falls on the eighth day in the month of Bhadon, which falls in the monsoon season. Dwarka takes on a different look during this period, with thousands of devotees arriving here to celebrate the occasion. After fasting the whole day, when the devotees turn up to pray at the temples at midnight (when Lord Krishna was born), the sounds of hymns and chants rend the air. This is the best time to visit Dwarka for a pilgrimage, as the grand celebrations bring out a side of Dwarka that can be seen only once a year.
Winter Season in Dwarka
Being so close to the tropics, there is no winter in Dwarka. The temperature does drop, but not much. Dwarka temperature in December averages between 20 and 26 degrees Celsius. The winter in Dwarka could be a summery season in other parts of the world. That said, the weather is quite pleasant, and one can go sightseeing and visit all the significant religious places. This is the best time to visit Dwarkadhish and the peak tourist season.
