About Dwarka Tourism

Also known as the ‘Home of Lord Krishna’, Dwarka tourism is all about treating your religious outlook with sheer devotion. The legends signify the establishment of one of the 12 Jyotirlingas here at Dwarka henceforth which the place has been celebrated as one of the biggest pilgrimage sites in the country. Dwarka Beach is a tranquil stretch of sand where the Gomti River flows into the Arabian Sea. Dwarka Lighthouse on the beach remains a popular attraction on a Dwarka tour guide. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, Dwarkadhish Temple is one of the four sacred pilgrimages in India and a major tourist attraction in Gujarat.

Tourism in Dwarka unfolds the many religious significance that has been attached to the name itself. The serenity of this place and the holiness in the air has eventually earned the name – Dwarka, meaning a gateway to heaven! According to the mythologies, many believe that the city was once submerged under the water due to certain mishaps. However, recent excavations have given thorough evidence of its validity. Archeological remains found at Bet Dwarka or Dwarka underwater date back to the Late Harappan phase of Indus Valley Civilization.

Situated in Western India, dwarka can be visited  in between the months of October and March as the weather is quite pleasant that time. Considered as a gateway to heaven, thousands of tourists flock here every year. Being well-linked to the major parts of India via air, road and rail networks, people visiting from Delhi can reach here conveniently by boarding a plane to Rajkot, and then taking a road conveyance for Dwarka.

History of Dwarka

Dwarka happens to be the first capital and the most pious city of Gujarat. The city's history dates back to the Puranic traditions and finds mentions in the Mahabharata epic. Dwarka travel guide will slowly and steadily unfold all the religious myths and ritualistic cultures that have been cemented with every brick in the temples located here. Every temple here leaves its onlookers awestruck by the sheer perfection of its architecture. The city also offers glimpses of the picturesque landscape of the serene beaches.

Temple of Dwarkadhish

The most celebrated Dwarkadhish Temple has survived the turmoil of time for 2500 years. Built in the Chalukya style of architecture, the observers are bound to get mesmerized by the craft of this temple, which drags it to the topmost attractions in Dwarka tourism. Besides, the other religious attraction worth mentioning would be Gita Temple and the Rukmani Temple which accepts prayers of all the tourists from all over the world. Dwarka temple timings are from 5 am to 9 pm, and some of the temples remain closed for a few hours in the afternoon. With a Dwarka sightseeing bus, tourists can take a tour of local markets and temples in Dwarka.

Lighthouse Beach in Gomti Ghat

Tourism in Dwarka has a popular ghat named Gomti Ghat whose beauty is appraised by many around the world. The pious waters of the Gomti River streaming away from the Ganges are believed to be one of the holiest places on earth. Thousands of devotees come here to take a holy dip in its saline yet tempting water as per the ritual. Another significance of this place is that the ghat witnesses the mighty intermixing of the Ganges and the Arabian Sea, whose view is worth preserving for a lifetime. The 43-m-tall lighthouse, situated at the coastal part of Dwarka, offers a panoramic view of the sunset.

Dwarka Beach

Dwarka travel guide includes a visit to the famous Dwarka Beach, whose specific rock-shape has become the best relaxing destination in the whole tour. Here, one can rejuvenate their soul with the sounds of the waves of Arabian Sea. Located at the proximity of many temples, this place is quite popular among tourists and locals alike.

Famous Food in Dwarka

Dwarka travel guide lists down the best delicacies offered by the city of intermingled tastes. Traditional dishes emerging from the Gujarati, Indo - the western and Chinese course is what makes the food in Dwarka taste like heaven! Apart from this, one can also savor into the typical Gujarati thali or the famous dishes of Chakri, Khakra, Fefda, papar, Khandvi, Sev, Khaman accompanied by a glass of thick lassi, chaas or Buttermilk.

    • Trip to Dwarka

Driver was good. Itinerary planning was little poor. They have note considered that so many attractions are closed on Monday. On Somnath we couldn't cover all things since they were placed into next day's plan. Hotels were not upto the mark. Specially Sun Plaza at Somnath was terrible. Please exclude this hotel for all other travellers so that you will not receive negative reviews. It was not at all 3 star. It was like staying at normal lodge. Hotel Manek Svasti was good, staff and facilities were nice. Sun plaza was horrible. Lords Inn at Vadodara was okay. Bait Inn at Ahmedabad was again bad. Spending an evening at dwarka beach.

    • Trip to Dwarka

Ahmedabad-Gir-Somnath-Dwarka-Ahmedabad with pitstops en route at Jungadh-Porbandar-Jamnagar - December '18 . This was our second trip through Travel Triangle. In 2017, we had been on a tour to Kerala which, though a last minute rush job, was hectic but well organised. Eshant Yadav from TT & Lijo George from the Tour Club kept in touch during the entire planning & were polite and informative. The entire trip was enjoyable & special mention must be made of Joy, the cab driver. He knew the routes thoroughly, was a good guide and made optimum use of the available time. The hotels & the food met our expectations, though The Breeze (a new hotel) was actually at Anachal & not in Munnar town. Tiger’s Roare at Thekkady was very close to the main gate of the Periyar Reserve. The Paloma at Kainakary was excellent, though a little away from Alleppey town and the complimentary boat ride, in the evening, was a treat ! The high point of our trip was a 6 hour day trip on a houseboat on the Alleppey backwaters. The vegetarian fare on the houseboat was customised at our request & really good. An 8/10 for the whole tour. Based on the earlier experience, we went with Travel Triangle once again for our Gujarat trip (Ahmedabad-Gir-Somnath-Dwarka) but, this time, it was a bit of a let-down. First off, Shreya Malviya of TT – either she didn’t exist or she was a ghost. Not once did we receive a call from her. Between 22 Nov & 13 Dec, we made 3 calls to her, only to listen to hold music or get a busy signal. We also felt that Mr. Amin from Diu Holidays, whose quote we finally accepted, could do with a softer approach & be less aggressive while speaking to customers. On the plus side, the hotels were quite comfortable – Sukhsagar at Gir, Sun Plaza at Somnath & the Goverdhan Greens ( 5 kms away from Dwarka town) lived up to our expectations. The food was quite good too. Special mention - the breakfast & dinner buffet at Sukhsagar, breakfast buffet at Goverdhan Greens. The only issue we had was the lack of hot water for a bath at the Sukhsagar. Being winter, that’s the least we had expected. Another plus was Mushtaq, the cab driver. A polite & well-behaved person, knew the routes thoroughly and drove safely, keeping well within the speed limits. As for the trip, given the distances involved, the itinerary could have been better planned. On the last leg, from Dwarka to Ahmedabad, at Jamnagar, we missed out on the Lakhota lake & museum, the Bal Hanuman temple & barely managed to visit Sabarmati Ashram at Ahmedabad, (we reached there at 6.10 p.m, the Ashram closes at 6.30 p.m.) totally missed out on the Akshardham temple & the Adalaj stepwell. We did Akshardham & Adalaj on our own the next day. All said, this time around, we would give the whole trip a 5/10. Travel Triangle, you need to step up your game, if you want to retain customers. Online doesn’t mean going anonymous or being invisible.

Our trip to Gujarat was a really memorable one. The travel agent Amin from Diu Holidays was really cooperative and patient enough to accommodate the customization that we asked for. The hotels allotted were really good, especially Dharani Village Resort in Kutch and Regenta Inn in Dwarka. The rooms in all hotels were well maintained and the staff was very friendly. The cab driver Asraf was also very friendly. Overall, a great trip. White Rann of Kutch, Dwarka and Somnath
