Both the winter and summer seasons are the best time to visit Dharamshala. While in summer, tourists can enjoy paragliding and trekking, the winter season allows pleasant weather. March through June is the most popular time to visit Dharamshala. One of the most beautiful hill stations, Dharamshala is a place that gets its tourists throughout the year. This hill city is very popular among backpackers making it a perfect destination for people from all over the world. Since Dharamshala offers something for everyone in every season, one can expect all sorts of tourists here; from backpackers to families, this town attracts them all. However, the best season to visit Dharamshala is summers as the weather is quite pleasant and people from other parts of the country can be found in abundance who visit the place to escape the scorching heat. Another good time to visit Dharamshala is from October to February as the temperature is very low making an ideal time for adventurers and honeymooners to visit. Dharamshala snowfall time is between December and February. Let's take a closer look at all the seasons in Dharamshala.

Month-wise Weather Details of Dharamshala

April to June (20°c to 35°c): This is an ideal and the best time to plan a visit to Dharamshala as the temperature is pleasant during the evening and night time. During the day time, the weather in Dharamshala during May is bearable unlike the temperatures of Delhi and other northern cities. This is also a favorable time for sightseeing, trekking, mountaineering, and paragliding.

July to September (18°c to 22°c): Months from July to September constitute the rainy season in Dharamshala. There is a constant possibility of landslides hence it is not safe and recommended to go to Dharamshala during monsoons. Trekking and mountaineering are also not possible during monsoons as the trails become slippery and steep.

October to March(4°c to 7°c): The winter season is the best time to visit Dharamshala as it is extremely cold and the natural beauty of the place looks like a dreamland. By the end of December, Dharamshala starts receiving snowfall and the mountains and valleys are all covered with a white sheet of snow which looks extremely stunning and mesmerizing. Dharamshala weather in December is cool and chilly and visiting Dharamshala during this time is preferred by those who want to enjoy snowfall.

Famous Festivals Celebrated in Dharamshala

International Himalayan Festival: This Dharamshala festival is one of the most popular festivals in Dharamshala. There is a three days festivity in honor of the Dalai Lama and to remember the day when the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 1985. Various great cultural performances and activities are held by the Tibetan Institute of Performing arts and other artists to celebrate this day with great enthusiasm.

Losar Festival: The presence of Tibetan culture and the influence of the Dalai Lama make people celebrate this festival in Dharamshala with great pomp and show. This festival is celebrated in the month of February and March when the whole city comes to life and tourists can take part in the cultures and traditions of local people of Dharamshala.

Dharamshala International Film Festival: This is a famous film festival which was first started in Mcleodganj in the year 2012 showcasing various famous best fiction, shorts, and documentaries from Indian and world cinema. The festival mainly takes place in the months of October and November.

Summer Season in Dharamshala

Summers (March to June): Summers in Dharamshala are considered to be the best time to visit this hill city. Unlike other parts of the country, weather is Dharamshala is very pleasant and ideal for indulging in adventure activities like paragliding and mountain activities. Also, the flowers are in full bloom at this time of the year making it perfect for nature enthusiasts.One can experience the Saka Dawa Festival in the summer month of April dedicated to Lord Buddha. A ten-day opera is organised by Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) with a number of cultural performances and folk dances.

The temperature in the summers ranges between 22 Degrees Celsius to 35 Degrees Celsius in Dharamshala.

Monsoon Season in Dharamshala

Monsoons (July to August): Monsoon is not an ideal time for people to visit Dharamshala. The place receives heavy rainfall throughout this time. Visiting Dharamshala this time of the year can affect plans as heavy rainfalls can make tourists stay in their hotels the whole time.Moreover, there are huge chances of landslides during monsoons in Dharamshala. Landslides can lead to damage to vehicles and blocked roads. But if you are looking for a trip with a short budget, this off-season will offer great discounts on hotel room tariffs. Dal Fair is an important festival in Dharamshala celebrated on the banks of Dal Lake in the month of August. During this festival, you can witness devotees taking dips in the holy water of Dal Lake.

Winter Season in Dharamshala

Winters (November to February): Winters are a great time to visit the Dharamshala. Visiting Dharamshala this time of the year is usually preferred by hardcore adventurers and honeymooners as the place is very chilly. Though there are fewer chances to witness snowfall in Dharamshala proper, Triund top receives plenty of fresh snow in winter. You will get spectacular views of the snow capped mountains in winters.

    For Travel in Ease team: We did a 10 day trip with travel on ease from manali to amritsar covering kasol, bir, dharmshala and Dalhousie in between. They provided us with amazing service with a private cab that was with us throughout these ten days and 5 days of hotel stay in which breakfast and dinn
    er was included. The properties that they booked were good except for Dharamshala however food included at each of the properties is worth mentioning. They had a well planned itinerary in which they covered all the attraction points. We had a couple trip and we were so much at ease because of their service. Also will like to say that the driver Ajay Thakur that we got is the best. So professional and humble. If we ever travel to north again we will go with travel ease. Special shout out to Baby Dharta for planning and coordinating the trip. Cheers to Sahil from Admin team and again Ajay for being an amazing driver cum guide. For Travel triangle team: Service needs to improve as there was no person from TT team to coordinate with throughout the trip, kept on calling but no response!

    Amazing Trip experience with you all...Specially the Welina Grand Manali Hotel the candle light dinner was done very nicely.     shala was looking like a Homestay which we didn't like. Rest it was the best memorable trip. And I would recommend Travel Talkies to everyone. And I would also recommend everyone who choose Travel Talkies to go with Driver Ravi Sharma only. He is the best driver and guide I have ever seen. His Speed with judgement and his nature is superb. And very co-operative & Friendly driver who take care of us as his own family members and guide through various things.

    Had a wonderful trip, stay was awesome but cab driver behavior was not friendly at all . He was smoking through out trip outside of cab but the smell of it was very bad. He was very rude , if we ask him to go to any place he just start giving excuses. He even bought Liquor not sure if he had it or n

    Our trip was initially Organised by Pallavi, she gave her best time to make fit as per my request. Since we were travelling with a 3year kid, I request her to make a comfortable itinerary with maximum coverage and I happy to share that she was able to deliver the same. On trip coordination from @S
    hivam was also good, at last moment he suggested to change one hotel, which I believe correct decision when we saw the location of previous hotel. Overall it's a very satisfactory trip, I will give 9 out of 10. Only things I believe need to improve food quality and varieties in hotels, every next day their food menu was repeating. If we stay for there nights we have to eat same menu for two nights, same things I face for both the hotels in Dalhousie and Mcleodganj.
