Wedged between the mighty Himalayas and the Asian countries of China, India, and Nepal; the Kingdom of Bhutan is a riot of sights, sounds, and sentiment. Voted as the happiest country in Asia, and rightly so, a honeymoon in Bhutan is the perfect way to begin your married life on a happy high.

One can easily reach Bhutan from around the world by air via the Paro International Airport, which is an hour long drive from the capital city of Thimpu. Other cities in Bhutan can easily be accessed through a well-connected network of roads and domestic flights. Travelers can also take a direct bus from Kolkata, if convenient.

Best Time To Visit Bhutan

Bhutan is located in the Himalayas and the variation in altitudes brings about a widely varied climate in Bhutan. The best time to visit Bhutan would be the spring months between March to May. The valley totally comes alive with flowers that bloom and blossom the entire landscape.

  • The clear skies of October make the Himalayas even more interesting and this is the time for trekking when temperatures are particularly cool. During June to August, the low season pertains due to rains which makes trekking difficult.
  • Climate and weather in Bhutan is also influenced by monsoon season in India bringing rain at certain times of the year. Bhutan experiences monsoon from June to September with heavy rains and high humidity.
  • The Autumn month from October to November is generally sunny but snow is visible at higher elevations. Late November to early March is also dry with pre-monsoon showers that usually start in May.

How To Reach Bhutan

The best way to reach Bhutan is by air and the country has only one international airport. The Paro International Airport is located around 7 km from the main city and has connecting flights from various parts of the world.

Reaching Bhutan By Road (Cars/Buses)

If you love going on road trips, then probably, you are better off not taking flights. India has 3 main border points with Bhutan - Jaigaon – Phuentsholing Border, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar.

  • The Phuentsholing border area is the most preferred option located around 160 km from Bagdogra in West Bengal. You may also hire private taxis from Bagdogra Airport or Siliguri to reach Bhutan. The fare is usually between 2,000 to 3,000 INR. The total journey time can be around 5-6 hours depending on the traffic.
  • For bus travel, you can take one from Kolkata as direct buses from the Esplanade Station in Kolkata will take you directly to Phuentsholing. The journey is around 18 hours from here but if you are in Siliguri, then it is only going to be around 4 hours.

Vinaya's 5 days trip to Bhutan

It was an average trip. By looking at the positive reviews I expected a better service. I travelled solo and it was safe and comfortable but guide they provided was lazy and not interested. He came late one day and skipped few places. Drivers were good. On my way back to airport driver was giving more information than my Bhutan guide. Guide Namgey was good on first day who had to rush for an emergency, only to be replaced by a bad guide. Their choice of hotels are not so good as they are away from the city in Thimphu and Paro. I liked Thimphu hotel though. Travel agents were helpful sometimes but I had to ask them driver and guide details multiple times which was frustrating. Sometimes there was poor or late response. I realised that the guide skipped places at the end of the tour and they stopped replying to my messages or calls without even acknowledging their mistake. They even blamed me for not informing earlier. I wasn't expecting to be cheated like this, otherwise I would have been cautious. It was my mistake ultimately according to them. They haven't acknowledged guide mistake till now. Please choose your travel agents carefully.

Dibyajyoti's 7 days trip to Bhutan

**Review of My Incredible Bhutan Trip** I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bhutan, and I can’t say enough about the incredible experience I had, thanks to our exceptional travel agent and our wonderful tour guide. From start to finish, the trip was wonderfully organized, allowing us to immerse ourselves fully in the beauty and culture of this enchanting country. Our travel agent was outstanding, taking the time to understand our preferences and crafting a personalized itinerary that perfectly balanced sightseeing and relaxation. Every detail was meticulously planned, from our accommodation to our daily activities, making the entire experience seamless and stress-free. Our tour guide named "Kinkuu" , a remarkable woman, felt like a family member from the very first moment we met her. She was not only knowledgeable and professional but also warm and caring. Her passion for Bhutanese culture shone through in every interaction. She enriched our experience with fascinating stories and insights about local customs, making us feel connected to the heart of Bhutan. The cabs provided were comfortable and reliable, ensuring that our journeys through the breathtaking landscapes were as enjoyable as the destinations themselves. The roads may be winding, but the views along the way were nothing short of spectacular. We explored the vibrant capital city of Thimphu, where modernity meets tradition. The stunning architecture, such as the Tashichho Dzong, left us in awe. Wandering through the local markets, we encountered warm, welcoming people who were eager to share their culture. This sense of hospitality was a recurring theme throughout our trip. Punakha was another highlight, with its majestic dzong situated at the confluence of two rivers. The scenic beauty here is unparalleled, especially when surrounded by the lush green valleys and the stunning backdrop of the Himalayas. The hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten was invigorating, and the views from the top were absolutely worth it—an unforgettable sight that captured the essence of Bhutan. Finally, our visit to Paro was magical. The iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched on a cliff, was a breathtaking trek that offered both a physical challenge and a spiritual reward. The serenity of the location, combined with the clear blue skies and crisp mountain air, made it a highlight of our journey. Throughout our travels, we were continually impressed by the pristine environment. Bhutan’s commitment to preserving its natural beauty is evident everywhere—from the clean streets to the unspoiled landscapes. The air was fresh, and the atmosphere was tranquil, providing a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In summary, my trip to Bhutan was a dream come true, and I wholeheartedly recommend this destination to anyone seeking adventure and serenity. With the help of our fantastic travel agent, our exceptional tour guide who felt like family, and the stunning locations of Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro, it was an experience I will cherish forever. Bhutan’s blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and warm hospitality is truly unmatched. 1) The remarkable and breathtaking trek to Tiger's nest 2) Stay at punakha, though the other hotels were better, but the location of the hotel and the view worth the money spent
