About Simtokha Dzong in Thimphu
The Simtokha Dzong is one of the first Dzongs built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1629 and is said to be the first Dzong in Bhutan whose entire structure has survived for so long when compared to the other Dzongs in the country. Simtokha Dzong Bhutan occupies a key strategic location in the Thimphu valley and guards the entrance to the adjoining valleys leading to Dochu La and eastern Bhutan. The word Simtokha translates to ‘On top of the demon’ and is said to be built atop the place where a demon was suppressed and imprisoned. The Simtokha Dzong history suggests that the demon used to harass travelers who spent the night there and it was Zhabdrung who subdued the demon and banished her into a rock on the hill and the Dzong is constructed to ensure the imprisonment of the demon confining it there for eternity. The Dzong is a small one but has been attacked several times in its almost 400-year-old history and holds a significant position in both the history and geography of Bhutan.
Currently, Simtokha Dzong significance serves as the Institute for Language and Culture Studies and also houses numerous statues and paintings of various religious figures and deities. Simtokha Dzong also houses the head of Lama’s chamber, a weapon room, and a storeroom. There is a ruined watchtower 500 m above the Dzong, and the water fortress or the Chu Dzong is 100 m to the left is now used as a prayer hall by the students.

Smriti's 7 days trip to ThimphuTravelling to Bhutan with Bhutan Red Robes was fun. It was well coordinated and planned. Our travel agent Subhash made sure that every day was perfect. On our wedding anniversary, they made surprise arrangements for us as well. I will recommend Bhutan Red Robes to all those who are planning a trip to Bhutan. We missed few places due to lack of time like Chele La and the hotstone bath after Tiger's Nest. Everything else was perfect :)

Tiger Nest, Do Chu La Mountain Pass, Fortress in Punakha , local Bhutanese food all these were the major attractions !! Hotels/resorts booked by the agent were good except Udumwara Resort on the last day of our trip .Rooms were not tidy, seems the renovation work was not completed and even the food options were very limited . All in all we loved Bhutan and hope to return some day.

Hardik's 6 days trip to ThimphuPlease make sure that the immigration office is close on weekends, plan your trip accordingly Visiting chelela pass
Dhruba's 6 days trip to ThimphuWe had an amazing trip, but few things I would have preferred otherwise to make it perfect. 1st we were unaware about the location of the hotels at Thimphu which would be great if the agent told us beforehand. 2nd we were also unaware of the sight seeing which cost a significant amount and since ATM service is almost non existent it's difficult for people to go to the location all of a sudden. Thankfully we were carrying enough cash. Best thing is Tigers Nest. Must visit
