About Greyhound Race Course in Macau
Greyhound Racing is the organized and competitive sport in which greyhound dogs have to race around the track. Greyhound racing has two forms, i.e. track racing and the coursing. Track racing make use of artificial lure which travels ahead the dogs on the rail until that crosses the finish line. This is also the racing in which the public will be the audience and people can only witness. In the coursing, dogs get to chase the lure which may be a rabbit or hare which may get killed by the dog. Many of the country has greyhound racing as amateur and just for the purpose of enjoyment. In the places like Macau and many others greyhound racing is the one which forms a major part in the gambling industry. The fact is that greyhound racing is not very profitable as that of horse races and so it implies too much of pressure on the dogs and they get very little care.
The History of Greyhound Racing
Yat Yuen Canidrome is the operation greyhound track in the Macau and it started in the year 1931 from the inspiration of one such in Shanghai. Shanghai had large canidrome which was built in the year 1928 that became very popular entertainment venue. The elite people of Shanghai visited the track and they bet and also had fun and dined here but it closed down gradually with the decline of interest. Yat Yuen Candidrome also faced issues in 1938 leading to its shutdown. They reopened in the year 1963 and also got the aid from the Greyhound racing canidome that was dysfunctional in Shanghai in terms of the equipment and staff necessary to reopen the greyhound racing Candidrome in Macau. The Yat Yuen Canidrome in Macau has been functioning well from them with betters from all over the world.
Current Situation
The greyhound racing in Yat Yuen completed about 50 years in the year 2013. It is the only one greyhound racing track in Asia. The races are usually held in the place between 7:30 pm to midnight. Majority of the greyhounds for racing in the city of Macau are imported from Australia. In the year 2012 there was an import of 378 greyhounds.
The Macau greyhound racing is coming to an end soon as there are so many legal complications in the way they were handling the races and the animals. The greyhounds that are into race can be in this only till about 4 to 5 years and after that these greyhounds are usually sent to some adoption centers. In Macau the situation is different the greyhounds are killed if they are unable to perform in the race. This situation has made many animal activist to come up against this greyhound racing in Macau and it is going to be closed in 2018 July.
