How to Reach Alpather Lake in Gulmarg

Alpather lake lies around 13 kms away from the Gulmarg town. With a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and acres of lush green terrain, this is just the place where you would want to go to escape from the hustle bustle of cities. For adventure seekers and fit tourists, a trek of one-day consisting of thirteen kms, will take you to Alpather Lake from Gulmarg(via Khilanmarg).

If you are not that adventurous on foot, then just take the alternative short hike of 1.5km from the Gondola Phase II of Mt. Apharwat. To reach Phase II, you need to reach Phase I from base first. The base of Mt. Apharwat has a Gondola ticket office from where you can sit on a Gondola to transport you to Phase I. From Phase I you need to take another separate Gondola ride to get to Phase II. The journey through Gondolas is as magnificent as the nature that surrounds it.

Even if that 1.5kms walk does not suit you, then you can hire a pony to take you to the Alpather lake. Just a few bucks and a short comfortable ride is all it takes to reach Lake Apharwat.

Also, if you are a professional rider and got good control over horses, you can hire a horse of your own and reach the lake. It is one pleasant and picturesque ride through green woods. Other tourists who are not professionals are advised to take a guide along with the horse for safety purpose.
