Best Lakes in Jammu

Mansar Lake: In one of the most beautiful settings that a lake could possibly have, Mansar Lake is fringed by lush green forests and hills. This is probably the most beautiful lake in Jammu. It is mostly meant for religious ceremonies, such as the “mundan” ceremony of newborns, or “parikrama” carried out by newly weds. There are also a couple of temples nearby, which can be visited, along with a shrine to “Sheshnag”, the companion animal of Lord Vishnu.

However, apart from being a holy site, it is also a popular picnic spot for families to visit and spend the day at. There is plenty of flora and fauna here to see, including fish, tortoises, birds, ducks, deer and so on. There are also plenty of boating and canoeing opportunities for those who are adventurous at heart. You can also give fishing at Lake Mansar a try, but make sure that you have the right licences for that.

Surinsar Lake: Another amazing lake in Jammu, Surinsar Lake is also a much loved spot for locals and tourists alike to spend some time at. Located a little more than 40 kms away from the city centre of Jammu, this place is easily accessible via local taxis and buses; and you can also take your own vehicle there. The Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary is located close to it, and is a great place to check out a lot of avian species. In fact, it is a much sought after destination among bird watches from across Jammu.
