Mattupetty Dam Entry Fee Details

Visiting Mattupetty Dam in Kerala is a popular activity for nature lovers and tourists. Knowing the exact entry fees and additional charges before your visit can make your planning smooth and hassle-free. Here is a detailed guide on Mattupetty Dam entry fees for different categories of visitors and other applicable charges.

Mattupetty Dam Entry Fee for Indian Tourists

The entry fee for Indian tourists is very affordable, making it easy for families and solo travelers to enjoy the scenic beauty of the dam. The charges are as follows:

  • Adult (Indian): INR20 per person: This fee allows adults to access the main dam area, including the viewing points and nearby walking paths.
  • Child (Indian, below 12 years): INR10 per person: Children below the age of 12 are charged a lower fee, which grants them access to the same areas as adults.

These fees ensure that all visitors can enjoy the dam’s scenic surroundings and facilities without any restrictions.

Mattupetty Dam Entry Fee for Foreigners

Foreign visitors are charged slightly higher rates. This is common at most tourist attractions in India and helps maintain the facilities to international standards. The charges are:

  • Adult (Foreigner): INR100 per person: This fee provides access to the main dam area, the scenic viewpoints, and walking paths, similar to Indian visitors.
  • Child (Foreigner, below 12 years): INR50 per person: Children visiting from other countries are charged half of the adult foreigner fee.

These fees ensure that international tourists enjoy the same amenities while contributing to the maintenance of the dam and surrounding areas.

Mattupetty Dam Ticket Charge (Other Fees)

Apart from the standard entry fees, there are a few optional charges that visitors may incur depending on their plans. These include:

  • Camera Charges: INR50 per camera: Visitors who wish to take photos or record videos using a camera need to pay this additional fee. Please note that DSLR cameras may have extra charges, so it is advisable to check with the staff before bringing professional photography equipment.

Parking Fees:

  • Two-wheelers: INR20 per vehicle
  • Four-wheelers: INR50 per vehicle
  • These fees are for using the official parking spaces at the dam. Parking in unauthorized areas is not allowed.

Boating Charges:

Boating is a popular activity at Mattupetty Dam, but it is not included in the entry fee. Separate charges apply depending on the type of boat and duration. The boating facilities are managed separately, and tickets can be purchased at the designated counters near the boating area. To avoid confusion, carry exact cash for small payments like camera charges and parking fees, as card facilities may not always be available. Also, planning your visit during weekdays can help avoid long queues and crowded parking spaces.

Mattupetty Dam Timings and Entry Fee

Planning a visit to Mattupetty Dam in Kerala requires knowing both the operating timings and entry fees. Being aware of these details helps you organize your day efficiently, avoid last-minute surprises, and make the most of the dam’s scenic beauty.

Mattupetty Dam Opening & Closing Timings

Mattupetty Dam is open to visitors every day of the week, allowing flexibility for tourists to plan their visit. The timings are as follows:

  • Opening Time: 8:00 AM: The dam opens early in the morning, which is perfect for visitors who want to enjoy the serene surroundings, fresh air, and cool climate. Morning visits also offer excellent opportunities for photography with soft natural light.
  • Closing Time: 5:00 PM: The dam closes in the evening. It is important to complete your sightseeing and return from all viewpoints before this time to ensure safety and comply with local regulations.
  • Last Entry: 4:30 PM: Visitors are allowed to enter until 4:30 PM. Arriving closer to this time might not give you enough time to explore the dam and its surroundings fully. Planning to arrive earlier in the day is recommended for a relaxed visit.

Best Time to Visit Mattupetty Dam

Choosing the right time of day or season can enhance your experience at Mattupetty Dam. Consider the following points:

  • Early Morning Visits: Visiting in the morning is ideal for those who prefer a peaceful and calm environment. The air is fresh, and the crowds are minimal, making it perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and families with children.
  • Afternoon Visits: While afternoons are also enjoyable, this is the time when the dam sees more visitors. If you prefer a lively atmosphere and do not mind some crowds, afternoons can be a good choice.
  • Off-Season Visits: Planning your visit during off-season months helps avoid peak crowds, ensuring a more relaxed and private experience. You can enjoy the panoramic views, walk along the dam, and explore nearby attractions without feeling rushed.

Mattupetty Dam Entry Fee

Knowing the entry fee in advance allows you to plan your budget for the day. Here are the detailed charges for different categories of visitors:

Indian Tourists:

  • Adult (Indian): INR20 per person – Access to the main dam area and viewing points.
  • Child (Indian, below 12 years): INR10 per person – Same access as adults, with a reduced fee for children.

Foreign Tourists:

  • Adult (Foreigner): INR100 per person – Access to the main dam area, viewing points, and walking paths.
  • Child (Foreigner, below 12 years): INR50 per person – Half the adult fee for international visitors’ children.

Additional Charges:

  • Camera Charges: INR50 per camera; DSLR cameras may incur extra fees.
  • Parking Fees: INR20 for two-wheelers and INR50 for four-wheelers.
  • Boating Charges: Separate fees apply for boating, which is not included in the entry ticket.

Pro Tips for Visitors:

  • Arrive early in the morning to avoid long queues and enjoy the calm environment.
  • Carry exact cash for small fees like camera charges and parking.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, as exploring the dam and nearby areas involves walking.
  • Bring a water bottle and light snacks, as food options near the dam are limited.

What Is Included in the Mattupetty Dam Entry Ticket?

When planning a visit to Mattupetty Dam, it is important to understand exactly what the entry ticket covers. The ticket allows access to the main attractions of the dam but does not include all activities. Knowing this helps visitors plan their day efficiently and avoid any surprises.

What the Entry Ticket Includes

The standard entry ticket provides access to the main areas and activities suitable for most visitors. These include:

  • Entry to the Main Dam Area and Surrounding Viewpoints: The ticket allows you to walk around the primary dam structure, admire the scenic beauty, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills and water. The viewpoints are ideal for taking memorable photographs and spending quiet moments in nature.
  • Walking Paths Near the Dam: Visitors can explore the walking trails around the dam. These paths are safe and well-maintained, offering a pleasant experience for those who enjoy a light stroll while taking in the natural surroundings. It is also suitable for families and children.
  • Photography from Designated Areas: The ticket permits photography from authorized zones. This ensures the safety of visitors while protecting the dam’s infrastructure. You can capture the lush greenery, the reservoir, and the distant hills, but professional equipment like DSLRs may require an additional camera fee.

What the Entry Ticket Does Not Include

While the entry ticket covers basic sightseeing, there are certain activities and facilities that require separate payments:

  • Boating Activities: Boating at Mattupetty Dam is a popular activity but is not included in the entry fee. Separate charges apply depending on the type of boat and duration. Tickets for boating can be purchased at the designated counters near the boating area.
  • Special Events or Guided Tours: Any special programs, events, or guided tours organized at the dam are not included in the standard entry ticket. If you wish to participate in these, additional fees may be required.
  • Private or Premium Parking: While general parking is covered with a small fee, choosing premium or reserved parking spots near the dam entrance will incur extra charges.

Pro Tips for Visitors:

  • Plan your visit in advance if you intend to include boating or guided tours, so you can purchase tickets ahead of time and avoid long queues.
  • Carry small cash for camera charges or parking fees, as digital payment options may not always be available.
  • Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to explore walking trails, as some paths can be slightly uneven.
  • Respect the designated photography zones to ensure your safety and the protection of the dam infrastructure.

Additional Costs to Know Before Visiting Mattupetty Dam

While the entry fee for Mattupetty Dam is very affordable, there are a few additional costs that visitors should be aware of before planning their trip. Being prepared for these extra charges ensures that your visit is smooth, hassle-free, and free from unexpected expenses.

Parking Charges at Mattupetty Dam

If you are planning to drive to the dam, you will need to account for parking fees. The charges are modest and help maintain proper parking facilities:

  • Two-Wheeler INR20: Motorbikes and scooters can be parked safely in designated two-wheeler parking zones. Paying the nominal fee ensures your vehicle is secure and helps the dam authorities manage parking efficiently.
  • Four-Wheeler INR50: Cars and larger vehicles are charged a slightly higher fee for using official parking areas. This ensures orderly parking and reduces congestion near the dam entrance.

Always park your vehicle in authorized areas to avoid fines and ensure the safety of your vehicle.

Boating Charges Near Mattupetty Dam (If Applicable)

Boating is one of the most popular activities at Mattupetty Dam, offering a fun and scenic experience on the reservoir. However, it is important to note that boating charges are not included in the entry ticket. The fees depend on the type of boat and the duration:

  • Small Boat INR200 for 30 minutes: Small boats are ideal for couples, solo travelers, or small families. They provide a calm and intimate experience on the water while enjoying views of the surrounding hills.
  • Larger Boats INR400 for 30 minutes: Larger boats are suitable for bigger groups or families. These boats allow multiple people to enjoy the ride together while taking in the scenic beauty of the reservoir and its surroundings.

Boating tickets are sold at the designated counters near the boating area. It is advisable to purchase tickets in advance during weekends and holidays to avoid waiting in long queues.

Important Notes on Additional Costs:

  • All additional charges are collected separately from the entry ticket.
  • Carry small cash or change for parking and camera/boating fees, as digital payment options may not always be available.
  • These costs are reasonable and contribute to maintaining the dam, parking areas, and boating facilities for all visitors.

By planning for these additional costs, you can enjoy a stress-free visit to Mattupetty Dam, making the most of its natural beauty, peaceful walking trails, and boating opportunities.

Important Visitor Guidelines for Mattupetty Dam

Visiting Mattupetty Dam is a delightful experience, but following a few important guidelines ensures that your trip is safe, enjoyable, and hassle-free. Being aware of these rules also helps you avoid confusion and unexpected issues during your visit.

Can Mattupetty Dam Entry Fee Change?

Yes, the entry fee for Mattupetty Dam may be revised by the authorities from time to time. This is a standard practice at most tourist destinations to maintain facilities, manage crowds, and provide better services.

  • Check before you visit: It is always a good idea to verify the latest entry fee online or through official sources before your trip.
  • Reasonable changes: Any increase in fees is usually nominal and is used to maintain cleanliness, security, and visitor amenities at the dam.

Keep small cash handy, as some charges may differ slightly from posted rates, especially for additional services like camera fees or parking.

Is Mattupetty Dam Entry Fee the Same on Weekends and Holidays?

Generally, the entry fee remains the same on weekends and public holidays, so you do not need to worry about extra charges.

  • Crowds may increase: While the fee is consistent, weekends and holidays tend to attract more visitors. This can lead to crowded parking areas, longer queues at ticket counters, and busy viewpoints.
  • Plan for a peaceful visit: If you prefer a relaxed and quiet experience, it is recommended to visit Mattupetty Dam on weekdays. The early morning hours are especially ideal for enjoying the scenic beauty without distractions.
  • Avoiding rush hours: Even on busy days, arriving early can help you explore the dam and take photos before the crowds arrive.

General Guidelines for a Safe and Enjoyable Visit

Following a few simple rules ensures your visit is safe, comfortable, and enjoyable:

  • Respect the environment: Avoid littering and use dustbins provided near the dam. Preserving the natural surroundings ensures a pleasant experience for everyone.
  • Stay within designated areas: Do not venture into restricted zones, as these may be unsafe. The designated viewpoints and walking paths are carefully maintained for visitor safety.
  • Follow instructions from staff: Dam authorities and staff are present to help visitors and ensure safety. Always follow their guidance.
  • Photography guidelines: Photography is allowed in designated areas only. Professional cameras may require additional fees.
  • Keep your belongings safe: While the dam is generally safe, it is wise to keep an eye on personal belongings, especially in crowded areas.

By understanding these guidelines, visitors can enjoy Mattupetty Dam safely and peacefully, making the most of its scenic views, walking paths, and recreational opportunities.
