A chinese temple in Bayan Lepas, Snake Temple is an attraction is Southwest Penang Island district of Penang in Malaysia.

The Snake Temple is also known as the Temple of the Azure Cloud in most places. The temple was built in the year 1805 for a Buddhist monk, Chor Soo Kong. The Buddhist monk is still holds a high esteem among the people of Malaysia. The Monk was spiritually enlightened and possessed a great virtue, medical knowledge and empathy for the people. People from Singapore, Taiwan and China also make a visit here, especially during the sixth day of the first lunar month which happens to be on the monk’s birthday. The Snake Temple gained more fame when it featured in the 8th leg of the famous “Amazing Race 16”.

Post the construction of the Snake Temple in Penang, snakes began taking shelter in the temple. Gradually, the name of the temple came to be known as "The Snake Temple". In the present time, the surrounding jungles which existed during the 19th century have been cleared, and the temple finds its location along a highway in an industrial estate. The snakes grew fewer in number after the development and it is now believed that those snakes which reside in the temple are returned to the snake farm cages at night and brought back during the next morning. Due to the modern infrastructure, the temple can be easily located from the Bayan Lepas airport in Penang.

Thousands of devotees flock to the Snake Temple in Penang in Malaysia every year to make a trip to the temple. This happens mostly during the birthday celebration of Chor Soo Kong. It is a very important event as it occurs three times in one year. During the other months of the year, the tourists make up for the crowd here.
