About Penang Attractions

Penang is a quaint city located in the country of Malaysia. There are several attractions in Penang that include a diverse range of places to visit and things to do that will compel you plan a vacation here. It is a wonderful experience to be part of the surging Penang tourism in the present times. Before visiting Penang, have a look at its history, culture, climate and much more.

History of Penang

Penang, a state in Malaysia, is located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia and joined by the Malacca Strait. Penang is categorised into two parts - Penang Island, where its capital George Town city is located, and Seberang Perai which was the former Province of Wellesley and located on the Malay Peninsula. Penang is the second smallest state in Malaysia in terms of land mass. On its north and east, it is bordered by Kedah and Perak on its south. One of the parts of Penang, Penang Island is connected to other parts of the state by two of the longest road bridges of Malaysia - Penang Bridge and Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge. It is also an interesting fact that the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge is the longest bridge(overseas) in Southeast Asia.

Facts About Penang

Penang is popular as an exotic holiday destination among tourists worldwide. Once upon a time, Penang was also known as Pulau Pinang or the “Isle of the Betel Nut”. It is now included in the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site since 2008. Penang is blessed with virgin cultural sights and scenery. Fondly known as the Pearl of the Orient, Penang is dotted with soft sandy beaches. It also makes up for the food capital of Malaysia.

Although Penang is not very big in area, it is home to some of the most attractive places such as Tanjung Bungah, Penang Hill and Snake Temple. The picturesque Georgetown and the enchanting Tropical Spice Garden in Penang are some of the cities other major attractions. The Tropical Spice Garden is also the only spice garden in South East Asia. Penang’s flea markets are also quite popular among tourists.

Just like the other parts of Malaysia, Penang also enjoys a tropical rainforest climate. Some of the months in Penang are affected by a tropical monsoon climate also. Penang enjoys a dry and less humid climate during the months from December to February. The encompassing seas and current wind system of Penang is responsible for such type of climate. As Penang is located in close proximity to the island of Sumatra, the dust particles from transient forest fires are carried by the wind. This activity causes a phenomenon which is known as the Southeast Asian haze.

Culture of Penang

Penang is a wonderful confluence of eastern cultures in the entire world. It has been one of the long-standing connections between Asia and Europe and the Middle East. Penang is diverse, cosmopolitan and urban at the same time. The remarkable art scene and free-spirited carnivals define the atmosphere of Penang while the local enthusiasm is a product of the state’s history and kaleidoscope of cultures.

I had booked my honeymoon package with the Sharing Travels. The travel itinerary was good as shared before. Langkawi was excellent but KL wasn't up to the expectations. It felt like a waste of time and money. KL can be explored on a self-basis much better than taking a package. Ginting highlands are
good for kids and not for couples. The city tour was worst when the cab driver himself was amazed why such an odd time slot was given. Otherwise felt relief of mind by booking the package. More options should have been given to choose from and a travel guide should have been welcomed

    1. Hotel charged us additionally for early check in and there were no room available in the category we booked. So we had to upgrade room by paying extra. It added cost to our trip than what we expected. 2. Timing was not as per the itinerary. 3. The agent was not helpful when there was a change i
n flight timings by the airline. They were not even reachable. They did not communicate the change in flight time though they had received the communication via email from the airlines. We had to rush to the airline counter and request to the change flight . 4. Communication was difficult with the drivers

Ashis's 10 days trip to Penang

My experiences: 1. Flight - How can an international flight booked back to back, I don't understand. The gap between both flights is 1hr 30 min. While going from Hyd to Langkawi stop over at Kualalumpur was 1.30 hrs. Now late departure of flight from hyd was delayed due to rain by an hr. At Kualalu
mpur one has to pass immigration & then find out which gate the flight is taking off within 30 min. Which level one has to go there is no one to help out. In fact I had to run & was the last person to enter the plane . Similarly while returning same thing happened. The flight took off late & reached Kualumpur at 20.25 pm local time. Flight departure from Kualalumpur is 20.50. practically I had to run to reach the gate. Now after reaching & when about to board the captain on technical ground didn't allow flight to take off. It's further delayed now. Don't know at what hr I'll reach Hyderabad. 2. Malaysia tour- Your DMC, Deepak has planned my trip wrongly. There was no free day in Kualalumpur. In fact if you see his itenary made for me Petrojaya tour etc was not there . As a result he kept a free day in Kualalumpur unnecessary at my cost - hotel stay & food . This was not acceptable to me.I had already intimated Nishita & Sailja of House of travels. In fact with their intervention on the last day before departing to Bali, Petrojaya tour was arranged hastily. The driver initially told me he is scheduled for airport drop only. But only after I spoke to Sailja, she managed to instruct concerned agent & hastily completed the site visit. Since the driver requested me to co-operate as he had a pick up from airport I hastily took some pics & left for airport. Bali - No issues at all. Enjoyed my stay. Suggestion - Henceforth while booking international flights do have a time gap of at 3 hrs for unknown eventualities. Further for a new person finding out the gate no where language is an issue becomes a problem . Distance between arrival & departure dates are quite long distance not to speak of immigration formalities. Apart from above trip is excellent.
