The best way to travel from Kolkata to Kathmandu is via flight. The other options are taking a train to Siliguri and from there a bus to Kathmandu. Both of these are quite affordable and efficient options. The only difference is in the time duration.
Air India has direct Kolkata to Kathmandu flights to Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport. There are flights on the other days too, but they are often connecting ones with Delhi or Patna.
Here are the different ways of how to reach Kathmandu from Kolkata.
By Air: Kolkata to Kathmandu flight duration of the fastest carrier, which is Air India, is 1 hour 20 minutes. Kolkata has one of the fastest flights to Kathmandu among all the other metro cities, for which reason people from neighboring states travel to Kolkata to avail the direct flights instead of flying from there own city.
By Road: Travel duration for Kolkata to Kathmandu by road is less than a day. It takes around 22 hours to drive from Kolkata to Kathmandu via NH19. However, the better and probably faster option is to fly or take a train to Siliguri, from where there are 10-11 hour luxury buses and hired jeeps or cars to Kathmandu available in plenty.
By Rail: There are no Kolkata and Kathmandu train as of yet, although there have been proposals for it. The only option is to take a train to Raxaul in Bihar which is located at the border or to Siliguri from where one can take further transport to Kathmandu.
