India has 12 major jyotir lingas, extensively worshipped by the Hindus, Kedarnath is one of them.

    The legendary tale behind, Kedarnath shiv dham, is that of the Pandavas. They felt guilty after killing their own relatives and to get over the guilt, they walked into the kingdom of Lord Shiva. Shiva thought of making the process bit complex and he started roaming as a bull in the forests of Garhwal. When discovered by the Pandavas, Bhima tried to catch him and was unsuccessful. After many repeated attempts, he caught hold of just the bull’s hump. It is said that the other body parts were found at different places. Navel was found at Tunganath and the face in Rudranath with the hair at Kalpeswar. The glory of the tale was kept alive by Adi Shankaracharya, when he re established it after the Pandvas built it, decades back.

    On the way to Kedarnath, there is a place called Gaurikund, it is said that Goddess Parvati meditated here for days to marry Lord Shiva. The place is well graced by hot springs. Up in Haridwar, Har ki pauri, a world famous Ganga Ghat, a traveller can experience the sacred Ganga Aarti. It is also the place where Kumbh and Ardha Kumbh, the largest human congregation takes place. King Vikramaditya, has built these ghats for sacred bathing, in memory of his brother, Bhatrihari, who once came to meditate in Haridwar. In the east of Ganga River, few kilometres from Haridwar amid the mighty Himalayas, lies a sprawling Wildlife Sanctuary, Chila Wildlife Sanctuary. Travellers here can go for jeep safaris too.

You need to take a holy dip in the holy water of Ganges, before starting the trek to the holy shrine of Kedarnath. It’s a 16 km trek to Kedarnath. The temple built in the 8th century, has a pyramidal rock in the Garbha Griha which is devoted as Lord Shiva by the pilgrims. After darshan and offering your prayer, you will return to your hotel.

      Positives:- Trip has started well and went safely Driver and cab are well maintained Hotel at haridwar and guptakashi are good Negative:- As committed , agent has not Provided the hotel at kedarnath _same room was double booked Later they arranged some pent house type room(temporary construction) faced lot of difficulty in that extreme cold condition Till night 11:30 to we did not get any room Please try to improve this Please double check on room booking For this part only we are paying the premium price to agency other wise we can book ourselves or we can go unplanned It became very difficult to adjust there - bath rooms are not good ,no hot water and beds are not good Travel triangle please discuss this with the travel agent and make sure this doesn't repeat again I asked to compensate for the discomfort caused to me but they didn't reply positively Second Please send the driver who are more interactive and interest in showing all the places As we are new to the place they should show all the famous places in the area I guess travel agent has not communicated clearly to driver about the trip To be Frank , again if need to book again I may not go with the same agent

      Overall trip experience was not so great even though it's not entirely due to agent only but environmental factors as well. I would have expected agent to manage the whole trip in case of changing weather and other conditions which is expected in this trip. Did not get that kind of support from agent. I had to push keep pushing him which was quite frustrating. Not really happy with overall experience
