About Dehradun Attractions

Located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, Dehradun is a buzzing congested city surrounded by the Himalayan mountain ranges. Being the state capital of Uttarakhand, it is the hotspot of a plethora of state’s activities and functions. Dehradun tourism is on a rise as well as the city is evolving with the modern times. Tourists pass the city to head to the major hill stations like Mussoorie, Dhanaulti, and Kanatal. The ones who stay back also get a lot to explore and enjoy. There is plenty to see and experience here. Even though Dehradun has become the hubbub for all the major activities of the state, the city maintains its vintage charm. Many structures and places have remained from the times of the British Raj in India that provide an insight into the history of this amazing place. Another factor about Dehradun that makes it an ultimate choice amongst the travelers is its lush green foliage. Driving along the roads of the city and enjoying a plethora of activities at its natural sights leaves people feeling mesmerized. Combining the natural beauty of Dehradun with all that it has to offer in terms of amenities, easy access to the other places in the state, the many amazing places, and things to do makes it quite popular amongst the tourists.

History

About Dehradun, it is said that it was a part of Kedarkhand, the abode of Lord Shiva. It has also been a part of the Garhwal Kingdom that came into formation later in time. The present town is named after ‘Guru Ram Rai’, the elder son of seventh Sikh Guru, Guru Har Rai who came here in the year 1675. There is a Temple cum Gurudwara in his memory that is still present in the central parts of the city. This place is called the Dera or settlement around which the entire town of Dehradun was developed. This structure was built in the year 1699 by Raja of Garhwal, Fateh Shah. The tomb is modeled on the structure of the tomb of Mughal Emperor Jehangir. Laden with frescos from the times of Mughals, Britishers, and the other Indian rulers, this place brings about all of the town’s history into one place.

Any Dehradun travel guide would tell you about the influence of Gorkhas in the town. The city was part of the Tehri Garhwal Kingdom and later became a part of the Gorkha Kingdom for about 12 years. The Gorkhas subsequently lost Dehradun to England and that’s when the British Raj took over. The Gurkha War (1814–1816), also known as the Anglo-Nepalese War was the iconic event that ousted the Gurkhas from their kingdom after the siege of the fort of Nalapani. From this time over, the Britishers took over and carried out their activities and governance.

In hotels i would say that 7 mile stone was awesome with respect to hotel view and behavior of hotel owners. Hotel Daichi in dehradun was also good in both the aspects. But the hotel we have booked at kampty fall was very bad. I will not prefer it to anyone as they don't have any management and also the service was poor.

We had booked a cab for our 4 day trip. The driver Sonu was extremely professional and we'll behaved. He was proactive in taking us to all the locations worth visiting. My parents both Senior citizens (70+) were with me on the trip. The cab service ensured we had a comfortable, convenient and memorable trip! The visit to George Everest's house was fun, the journey to Clouds End was beautiful! Eco trip to the top of a mountain in Dhanaulti was amazing! Walk to the end of Robbers Cave in Dehradun is worth a visit. Winter vacation to the hills is more fun than Summer time!

    • Trip to Dehradun

Our trip was planned in the last moment so we did not have option to research much and relied on the experts. Let me begin by writing the good things first: 1) The initial response was good & quick 2) Mr Sandeep the agent was polite and accommodative of our requests and modifications These were the only things that went well. Now let me share the list of things that went wrong. 1) Problem between the driver and the agent - we had no clue of what was going on between these guys. Each of them wanted to change the trip itinerary on their own way. The driver complained about the agent and the agent kept saying the driver has no clue. The nagging of the driver started right from the moment we landed at Dehradun. It was very upsetting when the driver put the mobile on speaker and agent Mr Sandeep said to the driver - "Sir handle karlo, aur jo bhi setting karni hogi hum apne beech main kar lenge." 2) Excessive Drive time - the drive from Mussoorie turned into a nightmare coz we drove 350+kms on hills in a day, which by no means is safe and recommended. We could have taken a halt. When I said this to the Agent Mr Sandeep, the first response was, "You should have started late". He said that without even asking what time did we start. We got stuck in the land-slide and the agent instead of supporting during the panic situation, stopped responding and then when responded it was rude and ruthless. He had no clue of the drive and the location, he kept saying I have 5 years experience and the driver kept saying I have 25 years experience. We were stranded for long . We tried calling travel-triangle guys as well and had no response from them either. 3) After all this, for rest of the days we decided to ignore both the agent and the driver and enjoy the trip but the worse was yet to come. We had asked for a camp site next to the river at Rishikesh and we were given some unsafe place in some remote village near Rishikesh. It was called adventure camp and nothing other than reaching their was adventure. The first sight we saw was a bunch of men sitting and drinking. The camp was in remote village with no place to go. We literally had to beg for food which was part of the package. The food arrived late and the guys at the camp kept drinking all night. This clearly shows that the agent does not have any understanding of what does a camp sight mean. We missed the whole experience of sitting next to river at the bourne fire. This was the most disappointing experience. I was with my wife and we could hear these drunk men screaming all night. 4. Lies of the agent - Mr Sandeep said, other hotels were not available while almost every hotel we tried to check had enough rooms. This was a outright lie by the agent. The cost of the trip was way to higher than the kind of hotels and service that we received. To save few bugs they booked us in simple hotels. I would never recommend travel triangle and neither 1point 5billion inches.

    • Trip to Dehradun

Driver was never ready on time given to him, was not aware of the roads / places to visit properly. In case of Tyre Stepney repairing not done when free, when we left from Haridwar had to wait in Highway for 1 Hour with Family while he was repairing the Stepney, which could have been done 2 Days back when he replaced the running Tyre with Stepney. I wanted a change in the Venue for the last Day of stay in Dehradun to be transferred to Delhi, while the adjustment from the hotel was done from your end, no refund money or arrangements done in Delhi. When called up Dehradun Kamala Palace they said it had been deferred from Agent for 1 Month, but to my disappointment no service provided & they clearly replied it cannot be Cancelled, I was ready to compensate some difference. Heights of things were when the Driver was asked to come to Delhi Hotel at 9 am he did not come till 11 am, when we booked a Ola Rental which costed me extra 1100 appx which was reimbursed through Mr. Sourabh Jungle Safari at Jim Corbett was Sitamani which did not happen ( Had to again be waiting for 1 Hour then he took us to just the entrance of one of Safari as Sitamani requires in advance permission which was never taken, my entire visit to Jim Corbett was waste

    • Trip to Char Dham

While booking the trip, I had hoped that I am gifting a trip of a lifetime to my parents and relatives, but it turned out to be something else due to careless attitude shown by the agents involved. Here’s a long and painful list of negatives of the trip: The Driver - The Driver was completely unaware of the route and wasn’t accustomed to drive in the hills endangering the lives of all on board (including himself). He didn’t have GPS and kept asking for directions every now and then. Also, he took the wrong route twice thereby delaying the trip The Vehicle - The vehicle was sub par and didn’t even have an AC due to which the family had to bear severe heat and dust on the way till Dehradun which is a good 3 hour from Haridwar. We were aware that AC won’t be required in Hills, but there was no mention in the itinerary that the passengers would be taken through hell in plains. The passengers had to literally shout and de-board midway to force the travel agency to provide better Vehicle and Driver The Hotels - - The hotels were all different from what was written in the itinerary uploaded in Travel Triangle. In the final itinerary shared separatley on my email, the final list of hotels was conveniently changed to more than one options along with an option ‘Similar’. Still somehow we made up our mind as Darshan was our first priority not the hotels. But what ensued was nightmare for the travellers. - All the hotels provided were far from actual location. - The Hotel owners kept pegging us for money that was due from the Agent. Infact the Hotel owner in UttarKashi was so hostile, he even refused to provide us proper food and facilities saying the money was very less. We had to offer money from our side for a decent meal. He was so ill mannered that - the passengers had to wait for good 45 mins in lobby after a long trip despite furnishing the provided vouchers - The hotels in Barkot & UttarKashi didn’t even have drinking water or jugs available. We had to buy water out of our own pocket. - We were asked to pay 5000 rupees (which we kept as a security with us till trip completion) to the hotel owner in Sitapur on day 8 before leaving - Very bad reputation of the agent Among Hotel owners for not paying up money. - On day 6 in Sitapur, The hotel didn’t even have 4 rooms as promised and provided 1 room in different cottage which was again below average. - The hotel info\voucher for Sitapur wasn’t shared till the last moment despite several reminder calls. Yes we did ask for a change in the hotel just the previous day, but the voucher was still not shared for pre-booked hotel as late as the last day. - Day 7 accommodation was different than day 6 and wasn’t even a hotel, it was a lodge and instead of buffet dinner, we were made to eat out in a dhaba. Just to ensure that we are fair and just in our description, I am also stating the 4 positives of the trip: - The 2nd Driver and Vehicle were both very good. The driver was really knowledgable and well versed with the trip, kept guiding us throughout. Even he hadn’t received full payment from the agent for the trip - On the last day, when we were stuck in jam and couldn’t make it to Srinagar on time, we were made available of an accommodation halfway in Rudraprayag on an ad-hoc basis. But that too was only after calling the agent more than twice and finally showing our dissatisfaction. - The hotel owners in all places (except in UttarKashi) were all polite and humble - All The 4 Darshans of course were all good and made the trip memorable and less painful. (This of course has nothing to do with the Agent). As you can see from the above points that even from an impartial stand-point, the negatives far outweigh the positives, It needs to be communicated to Vaishnavi Holidays in strict terms that an esteemed and reputed organisation like Travel Triangle values and maintains high standards of service and commitment towards its customers and there is no free-pass for its partners who lack the same. Although, I strongly believe that no material compensation would be sufficient enough to make up for the agony the passengers had to endure throughout the journey, still out of a total package of 1,64,000 INR, an amount approximating to minimum 30000 INR is what we estimate to have been cheated upon in terms of promised services. In such a helpless and hopeless state of mind, I can only request Travel Triangle to help us out here to restore the sense of justice justice for it’s customers as we feel conned, harassed and most of all, humiliated by the whole sequence of events. Let me know in case we need to furnish more info. Regards, Raghav Mundhra M: (+91) 931 339 5366, (+91) 807 7563 059

They are the best......I had such a memorable tour that it gives me immense pleasure to share my experience. Right from the booking and initial conversation where I informed Vipul about my requirements, they took care of everything right from providing me home pick up and drop which helped me a lot. I booked my tour for Manali I was on my honeymoon tour and wanted to impress my bride. It pleasent journey that it gave a feeling of home away from home. The hotel Mountain face cottage which is actually a G+2 storey building had a perfect view. The owner Ayush Mahajan and his staff were impressive and prompt, I was very happy and so was my bride. In the whole trip not even once I was asked for payment as everything was scheduled and I did so. I would recommend everyone who are single and whoever is getting married to book this tour agency as they are the bestest, thanks Vipul for taking care of my whole trip. I am from Bombay and got married in Dehradun so was not much aware of the neighborhood and was a bit hesitate but the experience gave me pleasent full journey experience. The whole journey was awesome.....I am very happy.
