The sacred city of Amritsar, is one of the important tourist destination of North India. Housing the remnant of the brutal Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, the city of Amritsar is known for its various heritage and religious sites which attracts thousands of visitors throughout a year. While the commutation facilities are getting enhanced each year, below is a brief description on how to reach Amritsar via available means.

By air:

The aerial distance from Pune to Amritsar is 1460 Kms. Due to this large distance, taking Pune to Amritsar flight is the most prefered mode of commutation. The nearest airport to Amritsar is Sri Guru Ram Das Jee airport. As there are no direct flights from Pune to Amritsar, one can take a flight to Delhi and then board a connecting flight to Amritsar.  A number of airlines operate between Pune and Delhi; and Delh andi Amritsar, including Vistara, Indigo, Air India and various others. The time taken to reach Pune to Amritsar by air , ranges from 6-7 hours.

By train:

Travelling via train is an affordable mode of commutation. However, as there are no direct  Pune to Amritsar train, one can take a train from Pune to Delhi and then board another train to Amritsar. Numerous trains operate between Pune and Delhi, some of them are Sampark Kranti, Swarna Jayanthi, Jhelum Express and various others. Trains operating between Delhi and Amritsar are Katihar Amritsar Express, Amritsar Express, Shane Punjab, Amritsar Shtbdi and Swarna Shtbdi. The time taken to reach Amritsar from Pune via train, is around 15 hours.

By road:

Due to the huge distance between the cities of Amritsar and Pune, tourists rarely opt for roadways commutation. However, those wishing to travel from Pune to Amritsar via road can either take up a bus or hire a private or take their own vehicle to reach the destination. As there are no direct buses available from Pune to Amritsar, one can take up a bus to Delhi and then board another bus to Amritsar. Another option is to take a hired cab or taxi or one’s car via NH52. Pune to Amritsar distance by road is almost 1,800 Kms, hence, it takes a day to travel via road.
