How To Reach Amritsar

The most delightful time to visit Amritsar is between October and March when the weather is just perfect for exploring this lively city in Punjab! During these months, temperatures are pleasantly comfortable, ranging from about 10°C to 25°C, a welcome break from the hot summer days and chilly winter nights. This lovely season of autumn and winter brings clear skies and mild days, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. In January, the temperatures dip to around 10°C, while the summer months of May and June can see the mercury rise to a sizzling 40°C. And don’t forget that July and August bring the monsoons, turning the cityscape into a beautiful canvas of lush greenery! While it remains warm during this time, the humidity can be pretty noticeable. If you prefer to stay dry and comfy while exploring, skipping the monsoons for your visit might be best!

Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport (ATQ) is the nearest airport to Amritsar. It is about 11 km northwest of the city of Amritsar. The airport is connected to cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, and Jammu. Airlines including Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways, Qatar Airways, Vistara, Scoot, and Malindo Air connect international destinations like Birmingham, Doha, Singapore, Tashkent, and London with Amritsar. For those traveling from Delhi should opt for train or road travel, while it’s best to book a flight to Amritsar when visiting from Mumbai or Kolkata to cut back travel time. Taxi rentals are available at the airport to take visitors to their respective hotels in Amritsar.

By Train

The city is well connected with other major cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata by the extensive rail network. Amritsar Railway Station (ASR) is the main train station in the city. Shatabdi Express, Shan-e-Punjab Express, Paschim Express, Jan Shatabdi Express, Howrah-Amritsar Mail, and Golden Temple Mail are major trains connecting Amritsar with major Indian cities. The Samjhauta Express runs from New Delhi to Lahore in Pakistan via Amritsar. The distance between Lahore and Amritsar in only about 60 kilometers.

By Road

Amritsar lies on the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) which is also known as National Highway 1. It runs from Delhi to Amritsar via Chandigarh. The distance between Delhi and Amritsar by road can be covered in about 10 hours. The distance between Chandigarh and Amritsar can be traversed in about 5 hours. The highway also connects Amritsar to cities in Punjab and Haryana such as Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, and Panipat.

Punjab Roadways has a large fleet of non-AC and AC buses that provide regular, economical transportation to neighboring states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. For transportation within the city of Amritsar, travelers can opt for hand-pulled rickshaws, auto rickshaws, cabs, and buses to get around. There is a free bus service from Amritsar train station to the Golden Temple for visitors.

e a bit with food at some hotels. Hotels provided at Shimla & Dharamshala were the best anyone can get at this price. Hotels at Manali, Dalhousie & Amritsar were also fair enough if compared to the price they charged. Even the car which was provided for local transport was new & in good condition as promised by Rakesh Gilly. The driver was very humble, professional & deciplined. The itenerary was very well planned by Rakesh Gilly & covered almost every tourist spot. Overall trip was good. They followed whatever mentioned in the package. Only thing is we felt that the driver was not properly briefed. For the first day we reached Chandigarh very late hence we had to take dinner on the way other than from the booked hotel. This expense has been agreed and allowed

to deduct. Appreciate for that. The hotel at Chandigarh was fine. But hotel at Amritsar was not that much standard one. Plus the dining area was not good place. Food was very good in both places. Car driver is very good. driving was perfect. But there was no space at all in this Innova to keep the luggage. we struggled to accommodate and had to keep in the seats. We all came from different places hence all were having luggage. Overall it is very good.
